Lens for filming from helicopter? Vegas Strip.

Funny you should mention taking pics from a helicopter. :) My buddy and I are in a business called New Heights Photography, and we use a hexacopter (remote control). My buddy Andy flies the hexacopter, while I handle the picture taking. Here are a few shots of what we do, and one picture of me...

Weekly Challenge June 24 - July 1: "Curves"

This morning started out cloudy and overcast....kind of dreary really. I set up the D40 next to my garage, waiting for the sun to come up and cast a shadow against the fence of the apple tree in my yard. It took about an hour and a half of waiting for just the right moment, and this is the...

    Lens hood

Just a couple of examples of lens hoods. The two on the top left are tulip style. The top right is a plain lens hood. The bottom one is a third party rubber collapsible hood for the 18-55 kit lens. This picture shows the bayonet mounting of the two tulip hoods, one clip on type hood, and the...

    How too Panning Shots

Damon, I used to be a corner flagman at my local motorcycle race track. I was fortunate that I was able to bring my camera with me and take shots of the riders as they blew by me. I used a monopod to steady the camera, set to Shutter Priority, at 1/1000th sec, ISO 100. The trick is to track...

    Home made backdrop stand

I finally put together my home made back drop stand. My next door neighbour is a welder, and he put together a bracket that I had made out of some aluminum pieces I had in my garage. Next I attached it to a length of aluminum angle and, together with an old light stand I...

    SB700 af speedflash

If you want the best batteries for your SB-700. head out to your local Super Store or whatever it's called out there, (Loblaws) and look for President's Choice brand batteries. They're made by Eneloop, and they are simply the best rechargeable battery hands down. If you're lucky, you could find...

    I NEED A TRIPOD! quick!

Just for the hell of it, I decided to post a pic of the tripods I use in different situations. Perhaps this will be of some benefit to others wondering what type of tripod or monopod to get for their purposes. This is the Manfrotto 055 with the Manfrotto 496 RC2 ball head. This is the one I use...

    Weekly Challenge June 10 - June 17: Miniature/Small-scale

Since I don't have a true macro lens anymore (sold the 85mm macro last year), I had to use my 28-105 with built in macro for this shot. It's all I got. :)

    eyecup

I use the Hoodman eyecup, too. Works really well with glasses on, as I tilt the long end up, as in the photo, to clear my glasses. And it's very easy to install in place of the stock eyepiece.

    SB-700 Diffuser???

Seriously, Rick, that Gary Fong dome won't give you any better shots than the diffuser that comes with the flash. Not only that, the SB-700 has a flip out diffuser that you can use, too. You've seen pictures of the SB-700 and all that comes with it, right? If not, I can post some here for you...

    Shots with poor contrast

I took the liberty of tweaking your shot. Hope you don't mind. It's just to show you what can be done with shots you're not totally happy with straight out of the camera. I used Capture NX2 in this instance. Like Helene says, Lightroom would be better.

    The old Ball Game

Instead of watching TV or staring at the computer, I decided to go to a softball game a buddy of mine was playing on. Took a few shots, watched the game, and came home. It was COLD out there! It's the wind, eh! Anyway....here's 3 shots of what I saw.

    Where do I find?

In the D200, press the Menu button. In the section called Shooting Menu, scroll down to where it will say Non-CPU Lens Data. Press the scroll wheel to the right, and you will see where you enter your lens information. And it IS in your manual. :)

    Poor Man's ND Filter

To say I'm disappointed for today's shoot would be an understatement. It was sunny and warm for most of the day. When the time came for trying to shoot the annular eclipse, it was cloudy all over. Talk about bad luck! I had a welder's lens in a shade #10-H to use for a filter, and this is the...
