    Show us Your Kit

This is my gear as it is at the moment; shot taken with the D40 and 18-55 lens. Two monopods and the Manfrotto 055 tripod flanking the sides. D40 mounted on a Hi-Ace 400 (now Slik) tripod.

    Tripod

I'll stick with my Manfrotto older style 055 tripod with the Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head. Holds all the weight I can load on it. Rock solid in all situations.

Brain freeze- Snaphappy playing & learning

Quite frankly,I like the first one better. Better facial expression the cat. :) This is what I would have done with this shot. What do you think? :) I took the liberty. Hope you don't mind. It's just to show the possibilities.

    Something different

Thought I'd throw in a couple or three shop photos, as the weather is not co-operating at all lately! I used my 28-105 lens on macro setting and my SB700 flash on remote mode.

    Is this harsh lighting?

This is the spud that's used to mount the strobe flash on, or an umbrella/flash mount. Some have a 1/4 - 20 stud on them. Doesn't matter. That 1/4 - 20 stud is for screwing into the bottom of your camera. I hope this will make some sense for you. If not, I'll try to clarify.

Newbie with a newbie question: How to get Date Stamp to show on images?

ummm....question: why would you want to see a date stamp on the face of your picture when there's no need for it. It's in the EXIF info on every picture you'll ever take with your camera. It's called metadata. Google this: FxIF .....then download the program (just the way I spelled it there)...

    Post your macro photos here

This is one I took about 2 years ago. I haven't done much since then in macro. I sold my 85 macro lens for lack of use. Camera: NIKON D200 Image Date: 2010-06-03 13:27:03 (no TZ) Focal Length: 85.0mm (35mm equivalent: 127mm) Aperture: f/5.0 Exposure Time: 0.250 s (1/4) ISO: 125 Metering...

Nikon CA-2 Case and Filters Questions

These were used on wide angle lenses, such as the Nikon 13mm, 15mm, etc. AI lenses. These filters fit on the bayonet mount of the lens, not on the front as you would expect.

    Processing Pics from D3100

By the way, while I'm at it here, I have a number of camera setup pdf's if anyone is interested, for many Nikon models. Unfortunately, I can only send them to whoever wants one via email, as it's not possible to send them through the forum.....yet. :) Here's one for the D200 for instance

    SD card question

There should be a number inside a circle denoting the class of the card...ie: Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, Class 10, etc. It should be on the face of the card. I was told by an old pro (older than me) that if there is no Class number, it's a knockoff. Stick to genuine brand name Lexars and SanDisks.

What am I doing right and wrong?

I think this one would be even better, Maxie. Either one will work. :) You might even want to print this out and keep it in your camera bag for future reference.
