Got one of these simple flash diffusers today to use with macro work. It's a lot more convenient to use than the small softbox I've been using. It has a habit of staying closed up after putting it on the flash. If you've never seem one used, you just slip the elastic opening over the lens...

I got some of my dad's photo equipment when he passed in the 80s. Much of it was stored in the un air conditioned heat and humidity of central/coastal Florida. Several of the lenses had fungus growing in them. I hate to think of what that would do to a modern digital camera.

    A Great Review of the 1New 80-600MM

I want one. I love my 200-500 F mount, but a native mount Z lens would be really nice.

    Settling for some extension tubes.

Well, had a chance to shoot something similar to an image I shot with the Nikon 105 micro. I edited it and then zoomed in to over 100% in the viewer, and it still had good sharpness without running it through Topaz. This was shot at 60mm. I need to do the same with controlled conditions at other...

    Settling for some extension tubes.

These look like the ones. You could also just take some out of focus shots and print them, although the stiff cards are probably more convenient. They also come with a little third hand, which might come in handy. Amazon. where else?

Here you go Fred. Focus point was on the ant tending her herd. I had the zoom set to 50mm to get some working distance as the lens was shading the subject from the flash. I should have gone back inside and gotten another tripod and the wireless flash controller to position the flash at a...

    Settling for some extension tubes.

These look like they are plastic tubes, but the bayonets are metal. Only way to tell for sure if the barrels are metal is to scratch them, which I would rather not do. They are rather short, and with metal bayonets, I think they are robust enough for my 24-70. They run $40 on Amazon for the set...

    Settling for some extension tubes.

Well, those who may have followed my posts about the Nikon 105 micro lens of my daughter's that went NonFunctinal while I was using it, know that I am currently without macro capability. And since I had to lay out a fair amount of money for a replacement for her, my dreams of a Z mount 105 micro...

    Repair, or replace it?

Well, the Pup opted for the Sigma. It's on sale right now at B&H for a whopping $20 off, so I went ahead and ordered it. This will undoubtedly diminish the possibility of my getting a Zmount 105 micro in the near future. I will hold onto the 105 Nikon. I will investigate a cheaper repair...

Weekly Challenge Aug 2nd - Aug 8th "Forced Perspective"

I can see it. You have to have a add on for your browser. You then right click on the photo and choose something like view EXIF data. The data then pops up in a separate window. At least that is how it works for me with "xlfr" add on with Firefox.

Anyone use DaVinci Resolve 18 for Video?

No idea how good it is, but Nikon has some free editing software. ViewNX2

    Repair, or replace it?

I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest way to replace this lens. I don't mind paying a little more for a lens that will suit her needs better. Fortunately, it is a common lens and right now they are readily available on the used market. KEH has a handful that are rated EX to LN for right...

    Repair, or replace it?

I don't think she would be happy with a manual focus only lens. I know, when working with higher magnification shooting, manual focus is the way to go, but I know her well enough to know she wouldn't like a lens without AF capability.

    Repair, or replace it?

She's had it a little over a year, it was a refurb, as they were no longer selling new ones. I haven't checked other independent repair facilities. I understand that lens repair can be iffy without the correct equipment, depending on what they have to do.

    Repair, or replace it?

Well, the Nikon 105mm macro lens I got for my daughter died today. It no longer focuses, either in AF or manual focus mode. When you turn the focus ring, the lens does not focus at all. I called Nikon, they said if I list the problem as "focus/zoom not smooth", the estimate will be be $475. He...

    Photography Magazines

I used to subscribe to Pop Photography back in the day. Before the internet, the ads were nice, as you could see what deals the New York mail order camera stores had. It was a lot cheaper buying cameras and lenses from them as opposed to a local camera store.
