    Lens compatibility.

Yes, you'll definitely want a full frame (FX) lens for your D750. With a DX lens attached, you will be getting something like 12 MP out of your full frame sensor.

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

Well, the weather is still fairly nice after the storm, and it's going to be hot again starting tomorrow, so I headed back over to Cypress Gardens this morning to strike while the iron is hot. Glad I did. My guess is this is a male mosquito. Note the feathery antennae. I may need to work on...

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

Usually I get them when they are green on green. They can change between green and brown, I guess orange is beyond their capability. There are lots of them around, and after taking quite a few pictures of them, I don't get all that excited about shooting them. Also, unlike insects, many of them...

    Photo hosting

I only post my images here and on another non-photo interest website that has a photography subsection that a few folks there post to. Both this site and the other allow direct upload of images from your computer, so there is no need for a hosting service, unless you just want them out there for...

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

Thanks, Woody, coming from you that means a lot. For this shoot I used the old 105 Nikon after removing the focus ring. I can manipulate the mechanism directly this way. It's stiff and uneven, but works. I set it to the magnification I think I'll need and focus with camera distance. Even...

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

Well the Pup made it out with me to the gardens this morning. Weather was really nice for this time of year. Not sure if this is the same frog from last weekend, but he was in the same general location, and posed for us for a while. Lots of dragonflies around, Took some patience to get them...

Post your focus stacking photos here

Well, here's an unplanned focus stack. I was checking the non focusing 105 macro to see if it was still sharp after reassembly. I set the focus on roughly 1:2 before assembly so I can still focus by camera distance. Anyway I found two ladybugs and was taking some pictures of them. I could get...

Should I shoot JPG or RAW?

I don't think it's as a case of people thinking you shouldn't respond to an older thread, just making you aware that it's from a couple years ago and some of the folks in the thread are no longer active, and some issues have different solutions with changes in firmware/software updates, and...

    Dim EVF on Z5

I saddled up the old Z5 yesterday to try and get a few ladybug pictures in the back yard. When I went to focus, I discovered the EVF (as well as the back display) was extremely dark. I was in manual mode, and had the flash attached. I could get the EVF to brighten, but only by increasing the...

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

And a few more. I think this is my favorite of the jumping spider series. Somehow he looks curious. More likely he was worried my Nikon would eat him. I had another of this spiney orb weaver I liked better, but it wasn't quite sharp. I love the background. Shot with flash so background was...

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

I have posted a number of macro photos taken at a local park. It is Cypress Gardens, a county park located on the site of an old rice plantation. It consists of a large number of gardens with walking trails that surround black water swamps. Lots of plants, animals and insects in residence, or...

    Repair, or replace it?

Well, I went ahead and did an initial disassembly today. I don't think it's the problem I thought it was. If I pull the focus ring off I can turn what I think is the focus motor assembly, and that obviously changes focus. The problem is that it doesn't turn smoothly, something is not quite...

    Repair, or replace it?

Mine won't focus in either. I wouldn't mind it too bad if it still worked in manual focus. I do the vast majority of my macro in MF. Big difference between robust automotive parts and the small, thin plastic pieces in this lens. I thought about a screw, plastic block and epoxy, but judging by...

    Repair, or replace it?

I doubt it could be printed. For one, it probably requires more strength than most 3D printers are capable of. Second, it also probably requires more precision than most 3D printers have. Third, I don't have a 3D printer.
