now is time to shoot Jupiter in North America

Jupiter should be WSW about an half before sunrise. I took a couple of pics on the 10th but it is so cold I quit early. There is a ton of light pollution outside of chicago where I am from. I've heard about ExtremeExposure to the Right to deal with this but haven't tried yet. The jupiter...

    Post your Moon Shots

Tonights moon. Shot with D7100 and 600mm f/5.6. I really need to tether to a tv for focusing as my eyes just aren't good enough and not enough pixels on the camera monitor.

Watch this space. Me and a friend installed a peregrine nest box in Aurora, IL on a 22 story bldg. This shot is from the street and there is no crop (my lens is bigger than yours). Unfortunately all that is visible is a front perch.

    Post your Birds in Flight

This was really far off (D7100 with 600mm and TC16a). There was no crop applied.

    Another dumb question

I've been playing around with various telephoto lens and have been practicing on my bird feeder. I use the live view and zoom in but my eyes just aren't good enough to focus in perfect. Should I buy reading glasses (I'm near sighted 20/400 both eyes and actually take off my glasses to fine...

This little guy has been in the yard and eluding me for about a week.

    Post your Raptors

Here some from a birder trip. I was unprepared and brought a monopod for my camera (D7100 w/ 600mm f/5.6 and 1.6 tc ). I had the iso low and was getting shake (way over 1000mm effective focal length). It was a 3 mile hike so I left the 180mm f/2.8 in the car. Had I brought it the owl and...

dumb question but bear with me

I saw a youtube video where they had a dx camera, ff camera, teleconverter, and a pentax q7. Every camera used the same lens shooting the same bird sitting on a sign. Each option was cropped to fill the frame and the q7 was arguably the winner. Which bridge camera with a really high pixel...

    Post your Raptors

Gyrfalcon a mile high taking with 400mm f/5.6 and tc16a (super cropped). I had the 400mm f/3.5 at home. I've been told this is a weird colored redtail and the wing and body appearance misled me to believe otherwise.

    Post your Raptors

A few very long distance luecastic redtail photos. Not good, he's really spooky and this was with a 400mm f/5.6 and a tc16a and still cropped heavily.

Immature Bald Eagle that was very photogenic. Why is it always shitty when I shoot birds?

    TC-16a autofocusing teleconverter

More pictures on another dreary foggy day. I should make a deal with the local duck hunters to shoot when they are hunting as it is never sunny when I have a camera in my hand. I did use a monopod to try and get the iso lower this time. I know I should have been shooting with the 180 f/2.8 or...

    TC-16a autofocusing teleconverter

I shot some birds today but it was really dreary outside and I had the iso cranked up to keep a high shutter speed (shooting a 400mm f/3.5 really heavy with shake). No cropping on any of these and some were really long. Hiking around with a big heavy lens is like going to the gym, 10 hours...

Bird photography, lens, subject size, crop and working distance for beginers

Shooting with bad light in the woods is always a challenge for me. The warblers are always bouncing around. I brought a MF 300mm worried the leaves would throw off the focus but there has to be a better way. I should have brought the 180mm f/2.8 and just cropped I suppose. Next time it will...

Bird photography, lens, subject size, crop and working distance for beginers

I can provide a picture on how not to shoot a finch. I was shooting an Osprey across a river with a 400mm f/3.5 with teleconverters (I think a 1.4 and 2.0 stacked with 1.3x crop in camera applied as well about 2000mm FX equivalent) and saw some yellow birds in the distance (thinking p...

    TC-16a autofocusing teleconverter

Here are some with a 400mm f/3.5. No post processing just compressed using LR. Does anyone have a 600 or 800mm MF EDIF they like to trade for something? I've got a goofy 400-800 samyung I will try it out on tomorrow and maybe a 135mm the next day. If there is anyone that is good at Lightroom...
