Advice needed for sharp bird shots

You need to use that TC 16a with the 180 f/2.8 lens (far superior to 200 f/4) while you're waiting to upgrade. You should be ok with the TC16a and the 180mm f/2.8. The picture below was 180 f/2.8 with a monster crop (probably 150 yards off). The 180mm f/2.8 with tc16a is capable of taking...

Here are a few from the Yorkville, IL 4th of July. Based on advice from internet I used a 80-400. I really needed my 35mm Ziess or 28mm Voigtlander. I had to back up 200 yards and it still wasn't enough. I'll do better next time.

More falcons. In a few of these one of the parents is playing keep away with a stick, to train the fledgling to fly better. These were very long distance.

    Impressive high ISO performance

I've got some accidental high iso shots of a fledgeling peregrine chasing a kingfisher. I was shooting stills of the young bird on a tree in full sun and it took off. I remembered to crank up the shutter speed but forgot to reduce the f/stop back down to maximum. They are 20 to 30k and I...

    Dumb Question

I did search first and found nothing. Is there a light pollution clip in filter (inside f mount) that would work on my d500?

I took these at a state park that has miles of trail and 100s of bluebird/swallow boxes. While trying to shoot some kind of yellow chat a horsefly keep biting me on the back of the neck. The horsefly turned out to be a tree swallow and I had to retreat walking backwards while trying to retain...

    Macro

I have a solution for you. Get rid fo the 70-300 vrg and replace with newer 80-400. It takes really nice close shots, great vr, and fast focus.

TCs on a newer version 80-400mm

I realize I'm probably better off with a heavily cropped image than a high pixel image with a tc on this lens but I am just wondering what you folks with a 80-400 (newer version) think about tcs.
