    Post your Train shots!

Arrrgh! :( I caught up with Norfolk Southern's Central of Georgia "Hertiage Locomotive" and although it was in a safe spot to photograph, the lighting and placement of the unit made for an impossibly difficult shot. Oh, and a phone pole was thrown in for good measure. Such is life in taking...

    Post your Train shots!

Shot this today in Dillon, SC of a southbound CSX local. Back in the golden era, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad crossed the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad just north of here, but these days it's all CSX and this track is used to run trains between the huge former SAL yard in Hamlet, NC and the...

Several minutes later I caught up with the train entering the yard and got a "going away" shot to show the Heritage units a bit better. I was blessed with good light today.

Caught up with two more of Norfolk Southern's "Heritage" locomotives today in Columbia, SC. It's hard to find these, let alone two on the same train. Imagine my chagrin to find that both special locomotives were trailing! It's okay though; I am happy to have seen them.

Went out today to test my D5100 with its new shutter mechanism and regain my confidence with it. Caught CSX Train 463 at McBee (pronounced MAC-bee), SC at the south end of the siding. All seems well with the camera. Even after two years of ownership, it seems I learn something new each time...

    Post your Train shots!

We're in Erwin, TN in May of 1979 and a Clinchfield Railroad SD-40 is fixin' to ride the transfer table at the shop. The Clinchfield is now owned by CSX. The road extended between Spartanburg, SC and Elkhorn City, KY. It was completed in 1915, so was highly engineered through difficult...

It's July 1984 and we're at Schnieder, IN watching a meet of two Conrail trains. [Nikon N2020, 50mm Nikkor, Kodachrome 64]

    Post Your Automotive Shots!

I found this nice 1983 Charleston 2CV Citroen example at a car show in Hendersonville, NC USA today: (In the interest of full disclosure, the photo was taken by my wife with her Nikon Coolpix P100 because my D5100 is in the shop. :()

Black Band At Top Of Photos

After two carefree and successful years with my D5100, I'm afraid I have my first problem. Starting today I have a black band appearing at the top of all of my pictures. :( I've attached a sample picture. Is my mirror getting stuck? Is this something I can fix (I'm a fairly handy guy) or is...

    Post Your Bridges HERE

It's July 1989 and we're in Newport, TN watching Nickel Plate 587 (built 1918) strut her stuff on the bridge across the Pigeon River. [Nikon N2020, Kodachrome 64]

Taken at the annual Volkswagen gathering called Southern Worthersee in German-esque Helen, GA, this is a typical hotel scene. Our VW is in the line-up. It's said that the gathering pulls nearly 2,000 VW fans together.

    post your aviation shots!

Taken today at the small Hendersonville, NC airport, featuring two grass runways and some very nice people. The bi-plane is a Stearman, built in Wichita, KS. You can comb your hair in the reflection of the Stearman's nose. :)

    Post your Train shots!

From this morning, NS Train 156 just north of Columbia, SC headed to Charlotte, NC. Overcast day, which was a blessing for this shot, as I'd otherwise have been shooting into the sun. NS has been replacing it's time-honored Southern Rwy. searchlight signals with the new hooded tri-color "Darth...

    Post your Train shots!

MG Tower in the rain in April 1989, with a westbound Conrail freight making its assault on the Alleghenies west of Altoona, PA. I'd driven all the way from Alabama and wasn't going to let gloomy weather deter me from my hike up the mountainside to this remote location. MG stands for "Middle...

Amtrak's Gulf Breeze at Greenville, AL on a lovely day in 11/1990. The Breeze was a short-lived vest pocket-sized train that connected Birmingham with Mobile. [Nikon N2020, 50mm Lens, K-64]

Southbound Canadian National freight at Waukesha, WI on July 4th, 2013. They call the CN's logo the "wet noodle". Taking photos on north/south railroads is always frustrating because you're shooting into the sun at all southbound trains. This one is no exception. I tried to get as far...

West Virginia is one of those states where its beauty makes it hard to foul up a picture. As evidence, one of my favorite spots is Hawks Nest State Park overlooking the CSX (former C&O) mainline. Taken 10/17/1993, Nikon 2020, Nikkor 80-200mm, Kodachrome 64.

Taken on 08/21/1992, here's the Georgia Woodlands Railroad nearing the end of the line at Washington, GA. This is a former Georgia Railroad branch. I sometimes find nice rail photos in old magazines and set out to find the location. It often happens that nature grows in to close vistas or a...
