    Post Your Automotive Shots!

Automotive related is this jewel of a country store in Salters, SC, built in 1937. I hoped for a better shot, but the driver of an 18-wheeler parked in front of the place and proceeded to eat a large lunch in the cab, so I had to settle for this. Maybe next time ....

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

Being old skool 35mm and having shot a bazllion well-timed train shots, I haven't often used the Continuous Mode for shooting on my D5100, but that reluctance came to an end yesterday after I flubbed this shot of Amtrak's fast flying Palmetto nearing track speed -- 79 MPH. I took two shots --...

    Post your Train shots!

Came upon this very old former Atlantic Coast Line depot at Salters, SC yesterday. Gotta love that Spanish moss in the trees. Nothing says "deep south" quite like it.

    Post your Train shots!

Went out along CSX's former Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) mainline in search of trains and vintage signals. Aside from the train shot here at Mars Bluff, SC, I didn't do well in finding trains, but found a number of vintage signals, including the signal bridge also seen. Back "in the day" U.S...

    Post your Train shots!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight westbound in October 1996 at Dalies, NM where the old mainline from Albuquerque meets the Cutoff west of Belen. This is a very remote spot, miles off the nearest paved road. Good thing the rental car company didn't know of our travel plans. :D

    Post your Train shots!

A Conrail freight crosses over at MO Tower at Cresson, PA in April 1989. Sadly, MO no longer remains. A valiant effort was made to move and preserve the tower, but the age-old structure fractured as a lift was made and it was razed on the spot. :(

    Post your Train shots!

I bought an N Scale Columbia, Newberry & Laurens boxcar at a train show this weekend. It's the one on the right and it looks great. The steel boxcar on the left was painted and decaled by me several years ago, with each letter and marking cut separately from a decal sheet and applied. My...

Went to a car show yesterday. Weather was overcast, but the rain held until the end of the show.

I found this CSX freight at the Savannah, GA Amtrak depot. The sun wasn't in the best spot, but I liked the composition and took a snap.

Thoughts on Nikkor 55-200mm VR f/4-5.6 lens?

I like mine and chose it because I often used a Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.5 from the late 70s until I bought my D5100 and found it perfect for my needs. I rarely need the reach of anything greater. I think this has been my most extreme shot and one of the very rare times when I could have used a wee...

From my B&W days with Plus-X film is a Metroliner under wire at Princeton Junction, NJ on July 20, 1976.

    Post your Train shots!

I have very few scanned pictures of trains under wire and they were poorly scanned long ago with tiny file sizes. Here's an example, taken in June 1981 of a renovated Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 at Woodbridge, NJ. She was placed in regular service and roamed the lines just like any other GG-1...

    Post your Train shots!

Another picture in Savannah, this one at the Georgia State Railroad Museum. This nifty little 0-4-0 saddle tanker chuffs passengers around the property and is just the perfect little locomotive for the task. The museum is definitely worth a visit.

    Post your Train shots!

Taken Saturday on River Street in Savannah, GA is this gem of a streetcar. When I first saw it, I thought to myself that it's too authentic to be a modern remake. Sure enough, it's a 1930's car from Melbourne, Australia! It's been modified to run on biodiesel, but someday they hope to string...

    Post your Train shots!

Shot today in Yemassee, SC between Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC on the former ACL mainline. I was shooting almost straight into the sun, so it was a bit frustrating. That phone pole has to go.

    post your aviation shots!

A Guiberson diesel radial aircraft engine used by the U.S. in WW-II. Originally built for aircraft use, it was adapted to use in tanks, especially those used in flamethrower service where volatile gasoline fumes could have led to trouble. Learned this today from a vet who was quite conversant...
