Nikkor Lens In Sears 1958 Catalog

I was leafing through a Sears Fall/Winter 1958 Catalog (U.S.A.) and found this offering amongst the cameras that featured a Nikkor lens. It made me smile and I thought others might enjoy seeing this too. In the accessories, it lists an optional Nicca 3F Model, so the body was not of Nikon...

    post your aviation shots!

American Airlines Boeing 727 (I think) at Chicago, IL O'Hare Field in 1970. I love the old orange lightning bolt scheme. From a Kodachrome taken by my Dad.

    Fish photos?

Regarding fish photos, you can keep your fancy DSLRs. I instead recommend shooting with a fish -- a Charlie The Tuna camera. It's a game changer wharfside ... and it's sure to eclipse the snob with his new Canon EOS-1D X at the next cocktail party.

What's The "Best" Photo You Took In 2014 ... Ready, GO!!!

I never experimented much with creative photography in my 30+ years using film and have only begun to explore the art with my D5100, finding both joy and frustration. I saw this scene early one morning in our dining room, but resisted shooting away. Instead I simply sat and studied the light...

    Post your Train shots!

Wheels roll on the stalled westbound freight as it gets underway. Quickly took the D5100 off auto-focus for this shot as it was going crazy trying to figure out whether to focus on the rail or the cars exiting the tunnel! :D

    Post your Train shots!

Local freight exiting Jarret's Tunnel: A heavy westbound freight stalled on the grade following a locomotive failure and after being rescued by the helper locomotives, got underway once again in the fading light. Man, it gets COLD quick in those mountains when the sun goes down!

    Post your Train shots!

My wife and I trekked into the mountains of western North Carolina (USA) to hunt trains and found some nice spots. Westbound empty coal train climbing the grade: Helper locomotives at Jarrett's Tunnel:

    Post your Fountains

Just west of Old Fort, NC is Andrews Geyser built 1885 and named for Colonel Alexander Boyd Andrews of the Southern Railway who laid out the line through these rugged mountains. Andrews is not a natural geyser, but is instead fed from a pond at a higher elevation.

Post Your Black and Whites Photos!!

Found some old photos in a closet at my Mom's house. Strangely, they're small prints exactly matching the size of 35mm negatives and they're printed on one long strip of photo paper that replicates a long strip of negatives. Very odd -- I've never seen anything like it. There are a dozen...

    Post your Train shots!

Found a 3-1/2" x 5" print today of Louisville & Nashville SD-35 No. 1207, as made from a 35mm Kodachrome, taken in Knoxville, TN. I didn't mark the print, but I took it in the late 70s. One of these days I will buy a good quality slide scanner!

A liitle DIY project over the christmas hoildays

Looks like a great little project! I like woodworking too, but often lack the time. I also lack a jointer and planer, so am somewhat limited in what I can do. Nonetheless, it's fun to build things that are just was you wish them to be in function and size. Some time ago I built this shelf to...

    Post your Train shots!

Cleaned the track on my model railroad and am doing some repairs to get things running again. So far so good, but more to be done. Took this quick snap. This is N Scale, each locomotive is about 4-1/2" long, track gauge is 9mm.

    Post your Fountains

Shot this one last night handheld while on a stroll. VERY frustrating light. I forget what my settings were -- I was in the darkness twisting knobs not knowing what I'd set up. Only when I returned to my truck did I realize that I have a tiny flashlight on my keychain. :mad-new:

train station, railway station or a railroad station

From 09/1997 is this low rez scan of a CSX train passing the former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie station in Pittsburgh. The P&LE is now owned by CSX, but it was once known as The Little Giant, made wealthy by its service to many of the area's steel mills.

    Interesting Nikon Ruler

Back in the 1970's my Dad attended the Nikon School. Unfortunately all of his class materials are long gone, but I came across this interesting flexible plastic ruler in his stuff the other day. I'm not sure what I have, but at one time he had the Nikkor Bellows and I recall that his old 55mm...

train station, railway station or a railroad station

From my pre-digital post-Kodachrome Fujifilm era in April 2011, the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad station in Hamlet, NC. Hamlet remains a major junction on today's CSX. The line was indeed named with an Air Line in its name. In the 1880s when the SAL was beginning it's assemblage of...

Sale Of Website (no, not Nikonites!)

My wife and I "own" a not-for-profit no-revenue hobby-oriented low-traffic just-for-fun website that receives only 4,000 hits per year. I received an e-mail from a company that says they have an interest in buying it or "monetizing" it if I don't wish to sell it. I've not contacted them, as...

If you are into pimpish things.....

Another gold bug. This one hatched a failed plot at Ft. Knox, KY back in '64. Is that julep tart enough for you, Mr. Bond?

    Food shots

Had a teen birthday party yesterday, with a visit to a farmfield corn maze as part of the festivities. My wife couldn't resist creating a corn maze cake, complete with Gummy Bear invitees. :D
