Post your Train shots!

Thanks for the compliment! They say we have about 26 trains a day. However, I have sat waiting for an hour or more not to even get a shot. I got lucky yesterday I had a train and a pretty sky.

It was a real mess while they were doing the repairs. It was very interesting though. They would start cleaning up and making sure the trains could start coming through again by around 6 pm. Then they would start tearing things up again the next morning. I think Virtual Railroad put up a time lapse of the new tracks being put in. They have their cameras mounted on our building. Sometime this spring CSX is suppose to repave the road as a final step to the repairs.

I watched that video on youtube. Pretty interesting how they went about it & kept trains moving.

What a pretty town & main street. :encouragement:

I suppose my slide scanner purchase was timely, in view of our state's "Stay At Home" directive. As a result of the Coronavirus, I can't go out to railfan, but can instead enjoy some old memories as I digitize my collection.

This shot is a favorite, taken in Knoxville, TN in October 1978 in an era when railroad crews weren't sealed in air-conditioned locomotive cabs behind bulletproof glass. The L&N was a friendly railroad and this slide captures what was once commonplace on its lines.

Sandpatch I'm lovin your way-back series. Thank you so much for sharing with us shut ins. :encouragement:

I escaped the house for a trip to the eye doc today. Man was it ever good to get out & drive. No chasing trains, but the eye doc proclaimed my eyes are now at 20/20 so that has me smiling. :cheerful:Hopefully in a month or so I can go out & shoot some locomotives.

Stay safe folks.

From December 1993, we're at the north end of Parker's Ferry, SC siding about 30 Miles south of Charleston on the former Atlantic Coast Line mainline. [Kodachrome, Nikon N2020]

Really like these Sandpatch. Are you shooting from a bridge? I see you've moved to the N2020. How was that early Nikon AF?

Yes, I found a local road off US-17 that went over the railroad and it was perfect. This is a fast railroad, level and straight. I love the old pre-PTC Darth Vader signals.

I shot with my Dad's old Nikon EL-2 for a number of years and it worked well … until I forgot that I wrapped it my winter jacket to keep it safe from rolling around in the car. I stopped for a shot and absent-mindedly grabbed my jacket, only to have the EL-2 roll out, fall to the ground and break. My girlfriend thought it was pretty funny. She didn't understand the cost of repairing it. We didn't date much longer.

Christmas was weeks away and my Dad took pity on me and gave me the Nikon N2020 for my gift. I never owned any Nikkor AF lenses to use with it and stuck with my old Nikkor glass. It was a great camera, went everywhere in all kinds of weather and never failed me in many thousands of shots. I never dropped it either. :)

Great shot Sandpatch! My favorite steam locomotive. Amazing that your picture is without crowds of people in the way. Although that was in the pre-cell phone days. Now you'd have every dad mom & kid holding their cell out in your way.

Thank you. It's been many years since I chased steam and I don't think I'd have the patience to do it these days. A friend once tried for some photos and said that all he could see were "rear ends and elbows". A pretty good summary I think.

From December 1992 at Lane, SC on the former Atlantic Coast Line mainline, sentinels of railway safety protect the track ahead. This classic ACL signal bridge and its signals were recently removed with the coming of newer technology.

More old sentinels falling by the week it seems. I wish I'd have taken more pictures of them. Once they're gone they're gone.
