Another Alco, C-420 1369 in service on the L&N in Knoxville, TN. She's former SAL 129. [Kodachrome, Nikon EL-2, October 1979]

Thank you Chuck. It seems the more slides I scan, the more I find. Perhaps by the end of July, I'll be done with the last of my roster and equipment shots. In addition, I just found a corrugated box full of yellow Kodak slide boxes in the closet, but I think these are "seconds" that I didn't have the heart to throw away long ago. Fortunately I kept my Dad's "light box" for slide sorting. I'll be able to quickly see what I have there.

Maybe those yellow boxes left in a dark place are reproducing. LOL! :p

I'm really enjoying your railroad pictures, keep them coming. :encouragement:

On the way to my parent's home for Thanksgiving in 1989, I stopped at Toccoa, GA and found a nice N&W SD-40-2 in the sunlight. :)

Found a few more N&Ws, the first of the 4127 at Bristol, VA in April of '88 and the second of the 620 at the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer, NC in August of '91. I don't think the 620 was ever painted in the N&W's maroon passenger color when in service, but the Museum thought it appropriate because it hauls passenger trains there. A fine choice I think! :)

In July of '82 I stopped at Hagerstown, MD and was wide-eyed upon seeing vintage BL-2 7171 still in service at the Western Maryland yard. The WM owned only two, both delivered in 1948! [Kodachrome, Nikon EL-2]

What a rare beastie. I saw one at the B&O yard in Cleveland not long after Chessie came into being. Never managed to get a snap of it. Came back later the same day with my camera & it was gone. Thanks for the fond memory Sandpatch. :encouragement:

Okay, who ordered all these cabooses? :D May 1985, Montgomery, AL. The three boxy cabooses look like former Atlantic Coast Line hacks and the red bay window remains in unadulterated L&N red.

Stepping out of the wayback machine today for a picture taken late this afternoon at Columbia, SC of NS's Illinois Terminal heritage unit 1072. The light was just right. I hadn't seen this one, so I'm happy to have caught up with it. :)

After a draught of Heritage Units, the (original) Norfolk Southern arrived today in the company of the N&W. I'd seen the N&W a number of times, but never the NS.

Nice one Sandpatch. That thing looks like it's from the steam age.

Speaking of which, I came across this slide of a steam-powered pile driver that I did not take. It was given to me by someone and I can no longer recall the details, other than it was taken in the mid-1970s near Maplesville, AL on the ICG (former GM&O). You can almost smell the coal smoke, right?
