Branchville, SC depot on Norfolk Southern's line between Charleston and Columbia. This line was completed in 1840 and remains one of the oldest continually operated lines in the U.S.A..

Nice catches Sandpatch. I really like that station. :encouragement:

Thanks Chuck. Further south in the lowcountry we also found the SAL's station at Fairfax, SC. A former ACL branch crosses here too. Both lines remain active and the diamond sees numerous CSX trains every day.

Went to lunch with a group from Church in the small town of Glendale, Ky. The Restaurant was suppose to be Whistle Stop... To long a wait for lunch. we found another across the tracks after the train passed. It was flying at least 50 or more through town.

153 was running DPUs two-thirds of the way back. Just an enormous train.

Train counts are down due to the railroads making trains 3 times as long. PSR & DPU's are to blame. The locals in NW Ohio are finding crossings blocked for hours when one of these monsters stops due to a breakdown or the crew going outlaw.

Nice catches Sandpatch. :encouragement:

< What was this used for? >

It's a side dump car of some sort. I've seen these in old photos, often used by railroad construction contractors to build up berms and fills and to dump ballast. It looks too tall to have been used in a mine. It's an extraordinary artifact, being in excellent condition.

A few finds today, including the Carolina Piedmont's yard office in Laurens, SC, some of their power and a burly CSX helper unit resting in Enoree, SC. Yep, the northwestern region of SC is pretty hilly and CSX stations a helper here to assist loaded coal trains up Ora Hill.
