Looks like a busy place! That's the former C&O's C Cabin, built in 1931. W&LE operates the former AC&Y and CSX the former C&O. NYC lines are gone it seems, as is the AC&Y's line west of town. Great shots again! :)

These picture are from Carey OH at the huge National Stone quarry. …

Thanks for the info on the past railroads in the Carey area. I knew about the C&O, but hadn't a clue about that little station like building. I had been wondering what it was.

The AC&Y used to run west to its terminus in Delphos. I'm not sure when they pulled up the tracks west of Carey, but from the looks of it must have been a long time ago. I sure wish I'd have been there to see those FM engines.

Here are a couple more pictures that I got on Friday. As I drove through Deshler there wasn't anything going on so I thought I'd drive west to Hamler. Nothing there either, but I passed a stopped train on the way there. Man was it looong, some many rural crossings were blocked. Turned around & when I got back to Deshler I caught that train going onto the Toledo sub. After those pictures I was about to head home when the train I saw going to Hamler was starting to move. These shots are of him.

Entering Deshler

Eastbound through Hoytville

About to enter the intermodal terminal in North Baltimore

I like Felix the Fit watching the train pass. Dig the motion blur of the train. :encouragement:

It takes me about an hour & a half to get up to the CSX mainline. Although in that time I make a few stops along the way.

These are the last pictures from my day of train spotting.

I was being watched at the CSX North Baltimore terminal. Things sure have changed on the security front.

A couple of SD40-3 locomotives build a train while a merchandise freight waits for a crew change.

A fast intermodal heads through Hoytville while the crew of the waiting train does an inspection.

The engineer looks at his watch, time to go.

About to enter the North Baltimore terminal.

North Baltimore looks like a busy place -- I love the multiple trains in one frame photos you captured there. Neat "roll by" sequence with the intermodal trains. I've never seen a video warning sign on a railroad before, but perhaps with all of those high-value containers in close proximity, they're giving fair warning to "visitors" with bad intent.

You should post a competing NOTICE - THIS AREA IS OCCASIONALLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE BY CHUCK sign. :D

Caught a rare daylight shot of the northbound Silver Star this morning. I'd forgotten about the dappled sunlight here, but I think I like it. I briefly considered hiking up to the north end of the siding where it's open and bright, but I like the forested composition in this shot better.

Two events made this shot possible. Track work in NC has set the northbound Star's schedule 4 Hours later than normal on certain weekdays until mid-September and an additional delay set the schedule back another 1-1/2 Hours this morning.

andy,h great picture of a beautiful steam engine. :encouragement:

Great catch Sandpatch. I agree the dappled light looks good. :encouragement: Great job framing it with the signals. I never see Amtak in my neck of the woods.

If I were a real railfan, I'd leave the house at sunrise, drive an hour in rush hour traffic and then hike 20 minutes in to a spot on the river where I could capture the Silver Star on a bridge. It'd make a nice shot. If I'm going to do it, now's the time with the northbound Star on its prescribed 4 Hour delay. Maybe, maybe ….

Which train is closest to you? I'm guessing the Lake Shore Limited? Looking at the schedule, that train is much like my Silver Star in that it passes through Ohio in the dead of night and wee hours. :(

Either, the Lake Shore Limited that runs on the NS along the lake or the Cardinal that runs through northern KY. Both of those trains come through in the dark.

I could catch the Lake Shore in the early morning light at Erie PA, but that is a good 4 hour drive for me. Since I'm a lazy old man I can't see me making it in time to catch either of them.

I'll just enjoy your pictures Sandpatch.

There'll be no Amtrak photography along the southeastern seaboard states early this week, as they've canceled most services upon the approach of Hurricane Dorian. Trains are canceled through 09/03/19, but I suspect that'll be extended.

No surveillance camera here, just a big old no trespassing sign. This is sad, a once proud E8 locomotive is now nothing more than a sign post. :(

Probably a good idea to cancel those trains. I hope the storm misses your place. Good luck. :encouragement:

Too bad this wasn't taken with a Nikon. It would have been a great shot for the weekly challenge - neglected.

Marilynne stay safe plus all you good folks in Florida & along the coast. Hope this storm wobbles out to sea.

Went to the Post Office this morning and then on to the nearby NS line to find local train P85 drilling about. A bank sign noted that the temperature was 100 Deg. Bleh. :p

Nice catches Sandpatch. Wow 100! It's 80 here today, tomorrow we are expected to be in the 70's. Perfect train chasing weather. This old boy doesn't do well in very hot weather.
