I've been awfully quiet on this forum this year as I have been busy with other things of less importance.
Today I had the opportunity to try some off camera flash as my flat mate agreed to sit for me and wants to sit again tomorrow.
Not everything went according to plan but I did learn quite a bit so hopefully tomorrow will be even better.
Here is a B&W portrait I cropped (heavily) from a torso and head shot. She is very photogenic and has lovely eyes.

And this is one I took a few days ago down by the river.

Continuing with the Off Camera Flash practice Sandi agreed to sit for me again and we had a lot of fun.

This one of her getting set I particularly like. We were trying to replicate the famous Afghan woman shot and this was as she was preparing her scarf.

I could have kicked myself ...

This girl had the most gorgeous hair, highlighted by her walk and bounce, wind action and the sun as she walked down the street.
I took this from the inside of my car.

I should have asked her is she would let me shoot her as a model but only thought about it long after she was gone.

I tried a little experiment that I learned on FaceBook and now feel I need to go and buy some reflective glass.

I just love the bokeh in this shot.

I went to the Zoo today because the weather was s****y and spent time testing out my off-camera-flash skills (or lack of).
This is a New Zealand Morepork (owl) that sleeps all flipping day and is in a very dark area of his/her cage.
Right up against my camera is mesh - very fine mesh so quite difficult to focus on the bird and exclude the mesh from the photo.

Not a great shot but a good result in terms of what I went to practice.
