I had an awful lot of fun taking this photo and many more of my daughter's cat.
This was in broad daylight with my aperture stopped right down, shutter at highest possible sync speed and iso 100 to black out the ambient light as much as possible.
I then used an off camera flash on full power about 3 feet away from him for the shot.

In this photo he looks so Regal ...

This cat photo is simply amazing. Is the cat patient that it will just sit there or was there a whole lot of luck that it all came together? Regardless, this shot is spot on!

Hey George let me explain as best I can in a long winded way!

This is my daughter's cat.

I stopped my camera down to make the ambient light non-existent with a high f stop and the faster shutter speed for my flash and slow ISO. So a normal photo would have produced just a black frame.

We then got some cat food and placed that on the table next to the flash before placing Mowgli up there with it.

To get him to raise his head from the food we simply took it away - cruel I know but he had already been fed so this was all a treat for him! :)

I took about 50 odd photos and there must be at least 20 keepers. It was my second attempt at off camera flash, the first was with a human who required no feeding and was happy to take instructions.

As a matter of interest I suspect very strongly that my daughter was simply humouring me as she has never thought my photos are that good - what with me always carrying the camera around and generally making a nuisance of myself.

She has definitely changed her mind since seeing these. :)

I did my first model shoot today (other than my flatmate) and had a blast.
She was a pretty young thing but was hard to shoot for a number of reasons - other than me being nervous as hell about messing it up.
1. She had lovely long blonde hair but it was flat - absolutely lifeless.
2. By her own admission she had bad teeth - they are quite yellow and her bottom ones should have been treated to braces. The result was she does not like smiling.

However she is blessed with a smoking hot body.

Here are the first two I processed.

And for some reason they all seem soft to me.

Note to self - steady that shooting hand.

Gotta brag a bit.

Last night I was awarded the JW Welch floating trophy (it doesn't float though - I tried it) for the best floral image for the year at my local photography club.

What a surprise that was as I only entered to keep the numbers up - never thinking my photo would win. After all the main attraction is the little wasp on it and not the flower.

I was having a good old look at the trophy last night and see that it has been going since 1968!

Here is the photo which I think was pushing the envelope a bit in terms of criteria.
