Here's another.

I tried a "grainy" finish of this dude and quite like the effect.
First the full body shot then the heavily cropped portrait.

I kinda like this second one. I guess with NIKS I could get a better finish but don't have NIKS right now.

I am not enjoying my 70-300mm at the moment. Everything is a "what settings should I use for this?" type shot.
I think I need an independent assessment of the lens.

I shot a whole bunch this afternoon and these are the best 2 - not my usual style either.

I wish i have the 70-300 today. I missed a lot of shots using my slow 55-300.

BTW, i like your shots

Thanks Michael.
I'm really struggling with it and I think that part of it is I shoot at too high a shutter speed. That means the ISO is high and it all gets grainy but ... I see other people's photos with similar settings and their images are not grainy.
I'll work it out but at the moment I am frustrated.

Take a two week break and come back to find yourself on page 2 ...

I like this shot for its innocence and also the fact that this little boy was actually playing in a tree!

It's been a while since I posted anything and autumn is well and truly here. Surprisingly warm for this time of year with me still being in short sleeves and sandals (jandals as the Kiwis call them)
This is a shot from a local park taken in very overcast conditions earlier today.

I have to shoot something for a "minimalist" competition at the local club and am really struggling with ideas.
I came up with this idea hoping it would do the job but I am not totally convinced.
It was a home studio set-up with black backdrop, off camera flash, tripod, mirror up, remote shutter release and a fan to keep it all moving.
I took several and have processed a few but they don't look too minimalist to me - although the term "minimalist' is open to interpretation.

A spider plant jumper shoot? Cool! But I think it might look cooler if you shot it at a downward angle catching the leaves better, so it pops more! But I'm liking it buddy! :)

I never would have thought of that myself! I would likely have used a box of wood matches with one leaned against the partially open box, on a black ground like yours if I had one! Lol But yours is unique! Way to think outside the box buddy! :D

I never thought of a downward angle. Good idea although it brings with it a few logistical problems as my backdrop isn't much bigger than a towel

With backdrops you can place it very easily that it fills the frame, my last shots of my Nikon FM was 2 x A4 paper. Not the best but worked ;) I am sure you can find many things that represent minimalism.

You'd think so but man I am struggling.

Putting pressure on myself as I need one more "honours" to make 'A' grade at the camera club and I want to do it before the start of the new club year. That leaves this one competition.
There's no penalty if I don't as the next honours (even if it falls in the next year) will still get me there - whenever it occurs.

I have a few weeks left and lots of ideas.
