This church and graveyard are just below the wall at Edinburgh Castle.

We took a trip to Whitby (the "home" of Dracula stories) one "goth" weekend, so there was a lot of interest in the cemeteries... BIG photoshoot happening in the background!

This is the graveyard next to the Abbey grounds.

These are far more impressive than my anticipated cremation.

Lakeside Cemetary is a famous burial place for Cleveland's rich and famous..... including President James Garfield, John D. Rockefeller, and Elliot Ness.

Over a hundred years ago, a community of Italian stone cutters made their home next to the cemetery. Actually, to call them stone cutters is unfair. These people were true artisians with stone sculpting abilities as good as the masters. The headstones and markers they produced are true works of art for which they were paid very little. The majority of the markers I photographed are life-size or larger. Remember that these statues have survived a hundred years, or more, in the wind, snow, rain, and hail. The work of these forgotten artists is worthy of any museum.

Some more from the cemetery of the rich and famous.

Some, not so rich. Found this one under a tree, all by itself.

And, some very young.

All in all, a very beautiful place to visit........ but you wouldn't want to live there.

I love to look around cemeteries; the older the better. These shots are all from the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, NY. And although past president Chester A. Arthur is buried there I've never gotten around to seek out his burial site/memorial and photograph it.
