November 19th's piano person of the day. I've got 2 different crops and pics. The square crop I had to do because his shirt was puffing in the back and it looked like a hump. I'm not sure which one I prefer for now so I post the two and you can give me your preference. I had forgotten that I had changed my quality setting and shot in jpeg Medium fine only... But did I ever mention how much I love the soft natural light coming from an open shaded window. Ah, the softness.

Oh yes... I have done that before (wrong setting) Usually I recover ok! :)

I like the 2nd one (sq crop) best... the composition, his slight body angle... eyes and lighting..

Both are good but I like the 2nd.

November 20th, the day went by and I didn't have a single shot taken. So the cat had to do. A little bit of filtering to hide the grain and softness of iso 4000 and a too slow shutter speed, wrong lens (35mm was the only one I had with me) distorted the perspective a little too much to be flattering for the poor cat.
D700, 35mm AI-S f-2 @ 2.8.

Marcel, in spite of all those issues... the cat came out pretty good... Good Save :)

I have to wonder how it would have changed the picture if the lamp had been turned on. Next chance you get, you might try it with and without the lamp and see. Both are good shots!

Marcel, a question i am wondering, why no hand on the piano, for me it would make him look like he is playing rather than sitting by it??

First he would have been in the shade and I probably couldn't see his face. Second is the constant feel of a formal portrait of a person with a piano that I want to convey. When they play, I'm stuck with a profile and it's not what I want.

Nov 24th, Cold, really cold, -4 F felt with wind chill factor.

So the cat gets to model again and falls asleep while doing the studio session...

D700, 28-80 3.3-5.6 at 80mm 5.6, iso 1250, 1/25s hand held, processed with iPhoto since I forgot my MacBookAir at home.

I like your piano people shots. I have been trying to get my sister to let me shoot her with her Baby grand but no luck so far.

One thing I like about baby grands (and grands) is that the lid can be raised to allow framing. We used to have a baby grand but never had any shots taken through the raised lid. Wish we did. It would be so nice if she would allow you to photograph her!

Nov 28th, we got snow and these snowflakes had thawed and froze on this little branch by the river.
