Pert near every day or so...

A wedding gift.
Seven years ago I became acquainted with a young girl and her family. She was horse crazy but since they lived in town didn't have a horse. I loaned her a horse so she could participate in 4H that year and both she and her younger sister borrowed horses for several years after that. She has grown up some but still active in horses. Tomorrow she is getting married and I made this rack for a gift. In the past I have made quite a few that either go into houses as coat racks or in horse trailers or tack rooms for whatever.

The gift is nice but the gift of letting them ride is what they will probably always remember.

Right Don and I got the satisfaction of watching them progress. Sometimes they would ride the eight miles to town, play all day and ride them back. Sometimes I would trailer them to and fro.

Do you teach them the care and upkeep a horse needs and let them do as much of it as possible? I could see where that would be a great life lesson. I could see where shoveling manure would be a great incentive for staying in school.

I certainly knew my role as teacher/mentor with the girls. With so many other less than desirable diversions available their parents were grateful as well.
