I don't know why this is distasteful, unless... Oh how horrible! Nikon made rifle optics and now they are providing a desert camo'd tan camera for some horrible combat camera soldier.

Not even that... This was all DIY. Some people have way more skill, and time on their hands, than I do! From the linked article:

Nikon Rumors said:
Alexy Joffre Frangieh did something different - he used a military grade "Desert Mirage Lizard" paint for some of his Nikon camera and lenses. He manually airbrushed the gear without disassembling it!

I saw where black cameras scare kids but putting a white or alternate color covering calms them down. How about a hot pink setup for the ladies? Fluorescent orange for hunters?

Looks like the color of the Cat machines & engines ;) But in Thailand it will be a first place runner cos of the unique product identity.

I think I would get one cos it fits do my own School building rooms and office color.

When in combat, when your enemy sees what brand of camera you are shooting with, you are too close. ;)

However, if that camera man gets that close then I'm pretty darned scared of the camera man. If he can pull that off then I'm concerned what other tricks he might be capable of LOL.

The tricks that you should be concerned with are the ones that makes loud noise. Its usually not pleasant after that if you are on the receiving end. :D LOL!

I would not use that equipment even if I was alone in the desert amidst sand that matched it in every way and you gave it to me for nothing.

Now this is more like it....

Well maybe not, I'll just stick with basic black, thanks very much.

I like my cameras and lenses to be black. If someone wants to get a custom color job on their photo equipment, more power to them. I just wouldn't do it. Basically, whatever floats your boat. :)

I like it personally... It is something out of the norm. I would like the ability to go and paint my camera and lenses, but don't have that much time on my hands to break it down and paint it to some funky color scheme. Why would it bother you if someone wants their camera to stand out from everyone elses. You didn't purchase that camera... You funded nothing of it. It would be done with their hard earned money. So who would you be to judge...?
