is that a private airstrip @ their front door? I like montana, my old age would not handle the winters. hail and snow in yellowstone in the summer plays heck with wardrobe selection. :)

Thanks guys! The magazine is called HangarSphere, it's about general aviation aircraft hangars and the "hangar" lifestyle. My dad is a private pilot, and the majority of the building is actually an airplane hangar built to house his plane.

ryanwphoto: Thanks! My folks are really proud of the place. Construction just finished last year. Funny enough, I just used the 18-55mm kit lens and a tripod, and the shots turned out great.

nikonpup: Yes, it's an airstrip, but it's a state airfield. It's actually the town's airfield. My parents fell in love with the place after they visited years ago, and their retirement plans have always been to have a house on the airstrip. There's a few other people that have homes there, it's a pretty tight knit community that we all love.

After the ridiculously busy time on Friday and Saturday (including a combined 12 hours of road trip), I was ready to just relax around the house. So I spent the day in and decided to use the night to grab some shots. I set up in front of my house for a long exposure, and grabbed a couple in the back yard. Again, really flexing the plasticky muscles of the 18-55mm!

More "around the house" stuff today. It's a good exercise to try to get a different view of something around the house or something you see everyday. Great way to increase your creativity.

I was trying very hard to get some shots of stars tonight, but the clouds conspired against me. I'll try again later. I was fortunate to get some stuff earlier today though that I'm happy with.

Right, I was only able to snap a little bit today. Had a lot to do. Clouds are still covering the night sky, which is a bummer. I got a couple of good shots down at the local lake that I like.

Lots of great shots today. I have a couple of friends who recently got D3100s, and they wanted to learn how to really maximize their potential. So I gave them a little tutorial and took them out downtown for some street level shooting. They had some great shots, some of which I may post later. Here's what I got.

Couldn't resist taking this shot :D

It's great getting out with other enthusiasts, it's not something I get to do often enough! You should point your friends to the forum!

Thanks! Those are two of my favorite. I really like the one with the bell too. No idea why.

I like the bell too, but the angle is sort of a turn off to me. I don't know why....it's like seeing a portrait where the persons chin is thrust out. Just something feels off. Ymmv.

Understandable. The bell itself is actually about ten feet from the ground, so getting a level shot of it is impossible without a ladder. I really like it nonetheless.

A bit of a mixed bag of shots today. One of the girls I taught wanted me to edit some of her shots. While I was at the coffee shop editing, earth decided to grace me with this scene.

Later on tonight her and I went to the busy part of town for some long exposure photography. She had seen the long exposure shot I had taken and was super interested. I ended up with these:

Admittedly, standing on the median in the middle of the busiest intersection of the city is a little daft, but we ended up with some cool stuff.

Very nice! I think in some city's it's elegal to stand on the median.... Not sure though! That just goes to show that sometimes you need to go the extra mile, get dirty, get wet, etc to get the shot!
