Fantastic shots! This gives hope for me and my D3100.

There is tons of hope. The D3100 is a fantastic camera. Granted, it's not one of the megapixel monsters that Nikon has been pumping out recently, but for what you pay it's awful hard to beat. It's a very easy camera to master, but it has plenty of creative flexibility. Stick some good glass in front of it and you have a pretty good kit. In my opinion, once you have a DSLR (or even a M4/3ds) that you can operate manually, the only limiting factor is your creativity. It's easy to teach exposure, but nearly impossible to teach "the eye". That's the learning experience.

Today I felt a little uninspired around home, so I grabbed the camera and went walkabout in the city again. It's kind of cool what secrets a city you've lived in for 20 years can hide from you.

Sadly, I didn't get a chance to do night stuff. That'll have to wait. Possibly tomorrow or Friday. I still need to pick the ideal location.
Love the Stevie Ray murall.

Love the Stevie Ray murall.

That building is sort of hidden away in an alley. I was shocked when I found it. Used to be a beautiful restaurant with this gorgeous hand carved mahogany bar dating from 1870 in it. They had live music all the time, and big stars from Travis Tritt to BB King played there. All gone now unfortunately. A shame that I missed out on it.

Okay, I'm a little bit behind. Had a ton of editing to do, as I was asked to shoot my fiance's family's Easter celebrations and I volunteered to edit a friend's photos.

Stopped by my friend's machine shop to do some shooting. The place was chock full of good subjects to shoot.

I discovered something really cool yesterday. As far as I was aware, the area didn't have any sort of camera shop. I was looking on Craigslist for a cheap monitor for help when I'm editing. I came across an ad for high quality tripods. After I looked at the ad, I found out they were being sold by a local camera shop. As it turns out, the guy that runs it was a professional who bought and sold used gear for years as a hobby, He had a rental home without a tenant, a bunch of inventory, and a love of gear. So he opened a camera shop about 15 minutes outside of the city. He's a very nice and knowledgeable guy with some cool stuff. His prices are great and he's got most of the gear I'm looking for. I'm certain I'll be supporting his business. Snapped a couple of shots of his shop, Carter's Camera Cottage.

Went over to a family friend's house for an Easter celebration, saw their pretty cool looking sun room, and snapped a shot. I wanted to spend time catching up on editing, so I didn't get a chance to do more shooting.

The first shots of the machine shop remind me of a provincial competition I judged along with 3 other photographers recently. The machine shots are way above what I saw there! Great job!
The competition was quite tough, it was on a high school campus and they could only shoot and print, no editing.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I can't wait to get back there and shoot again. My friend wants to use my shots in his advertising and Facebook pages.

Great shots. Looks like you're having fun with the 3100.

Thank you sir! I am definitely loving it.

Happy Easter to everyone! My fiancee and I went to a good church service this morning and went out for brunch afterwards. We parked several blocks away so we could take a walk downtown and enjoy the great weather. She likes watching me be creative, and occasionally I use her as a subject. So, I brought the D3100 along and got some great shots.

This one's a wall hanger! NICE SHOT! I'd like to see the bottom of the ring on that second signal, but that's being extremely nitpicky. Well done!!

Expand that bottom out 4%, use a little smart fill and free transform on a copy of the bottom of the left side and you can get it. ;)

May I ask what lenses you use? Not that it matters just curious.

Almost all of my shots were taken with the 18-55mm (non VR, very soon to be replaced by a 16-85mm) and a 35mm f/1.8. I adore the 35mm. The 18-55mm is a useful walkabout lens, but not as sharp or as big a zoom range as I'd like (hence the 16-85mm).
