With a nod to Pat, a.k.a. RockyNH, here is a shot of one of my coffee mugs. It was a lighting challenge, and I constantly battled glare, underexposure and overexposure. I finally just shot with a basic bare flash bounced off of a white ceiling. K.I.S.S., anyone?

Just curious if you could do this shot again using a little light on the background to separate the cup from the background?

I could try, but it would have to be a LOT of light since the background is black velvet. (I don't think that I currently have enough flash power to actually make it happen.) I actually wanted the sides to blend into the background.

I didn't have much choice, though; I don't have any other background material. :( If I can find some white velvet, I'll give this a try.

That's really good. I don't see any glare at all. Also like the color a lot.

Good point about the photo's orientation, Helene.

I shot it in the vertical to get the most sky and reflections, as well as to not include a pair of cars parked on the street. I don't think this location lends itself to a horizontal shot since it will be "cluttered" with a lot more houses and roadway. I was looking down the long span of the pond; if I had shot across the short span, I might have taken the photo in landscape orientation. In addition, I cropped it to eliminate some treetops that I thought hurt the overall composition.

Thank you.

All good and valid points . . . dang clutter that interferes with perfect shots!
