I dont mind adding something else to the 90% of CC i dont use :D i dont need it to work only need it not to screw the rest up.

You should see my workflow. Sometimes when an image leaves LR and goes on it's journey to PS and NIK and Topaz and back to PS and finally back to LR, I realize that it would have been better off staying in LR .:)

That creative cloud almost bricks my laptop, it comes with a lot of excess baggage. Had to uninstal Lr and Ps whats the alternative for casual hobbist photographer? Already use Picassa but it a little light on features.

It works just fine on my laptop and desktop. How old is your laptop and what are the specs on it?

I'd tell you to look into Paintshop Pro 8 by Corel or maybe ACDSee Pro 9. I don't like either as much as I like Photoshop but you go with what works!

I'm sure someone will suggest GIMP because it's free so I'll go ahead and include it.

I did not have any problem on mine... Now that last update was to much for my 6 almost 7 year old lap top, but this new Acer works fine and it is an i5 machine with 8 Gig of Ram and 4 Gig of dedicated Vram it is not a power laptop.

Yep, I will suggest GIMP. Ha! Also Capture NX-d from Nikon. And then if you really want to delve into the world of play, there is RawTherapee, also free.

I did mess with Gimp for a while. It is pretty neat software. But when I made the leap to the cloud I stopped using it. PS and Gimp both are tough for me to learn. LR was not bad but I am working with PS now some, but it literally gives me a headache after a while... so did gimp. requires toooo much focus ;)

I started on Photoshop and was pretty good with it. Took some time to get used to Lightroom but once I did I really like it. I get the vast majority of the work done in LR and only go to PS when I have work to do that can not be done in LR like cloning or the Spot Healing Brush. Those are actually pretty easy to learn and use and can really make a big difference in a photo when you have a garbage can in the shot you need to remove or power lines just ruining your landscape shot.

That is the stuff I struggle with... especially power lines. Rural Kentucky is the land of power poles and lines. Horoscope Fish gave me some tutorials to help... it is just tough for me to process. Thanks for the link Don!

Celeron processors aren't designed to handle things like photo processing. They're fine for office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, Internet browsing, etc.) but Photoshop, Lightroom, even GIMP is something else entirely.

The RAM situation is bad but depending on the RAM itself you might have skated by with only 4GB, especially if there is a discrete graphics card. I'm betting, though, the system uses an integrated graphics chip-set which probably "borrows" from the system RAM for video processing, decreasing performance even further.
