I have been invited to my friend Greg's all day family cook out tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to take a camera and if so, which one and what lens or lenses. I would consider the 50mm f1.4 and the 85mm f1.4 lenses, as think the 14-24mm might be too wide.
But I worry about getting food on one of my cameras, or getting one banged up in the crush around the food. D700 maybe?

Opinions?

Or maybe I should double down taking both Nikon's with the 85mm on one and the 14-24mm on the other Nikon? :)

I am leaning towards the idea of taking my D700 and my Nikkor af-s 50mm f1.4 lens, for a good setup for this type of event. I want to protect my gear from any accidental type damages, so keeping things simple seems like the best way to go.:)

No I can't buy anything anymore. Besides my D700 cost less than the D610 I think.lol :)

But I can't afford to lose anything, since I can't replace them.

Thanks for the thought anyway my friend.:)

It sounds like you need a cheap body to take to hazardous events. A D610 maybe? :)

I'd say the D700 with the 50mm lens should work well. It will enable you to get close for individual shots and allow you to get more people in the viewfinder for the outdoor group shots. And with an aperture of f/1.4, it will still AF when the lights start to go down. Have fun, Bill.

Well if Greg remembers to come by and lead me to the place, I will go with the D700 and 50mm f1.4. It was what I was thinking too, keeping things simple.:)

Thanks Cindy my friend! If Greg forgets, I will go fishing or something.lol ;)

Sorry I missed your call.....again. I was trukkin' through the Music City in heavy traffic. I already had my coffee in one hand and adjusting the boys with the other. I really should wear boxers to avoid squeezing them while driving.:indecisiveness:

I went to my friends cook out, and took just a few photos. I really regret not bring a flash, since it was in the shade. I stayed as long as I could stand it, with so many people. Maybe one day I will be able to enjoy this type of outing, without my agoraphobia getting to me.
I will post some shots here once I get them post processed.:)

It is so great seeing you taking photos. Love your shots. In PP you can brighten the shadows up a bit . But, as I said. The photos a great, showing life is great, even people struggling with problems.

Thank you all very much my friends! It doesn't seem like a park good for bird shots, but it was nice in the little second where we were.:)
Greg and his wife have been like family for me.:)
