A pair of edits of the same shot from yesterday morning for the current monthly contest. I like them both but went with the color because I think the contrast in colors gives it just a little more pop. What do you think? Faced with these decisions my choice always seems to run counter to popular choice. LOL

Morning Jake,

First, let me say I do like them both... and agree with your assessment. The color version really "Pops" more, especially if you look at them together.. On the other hand, look at the B&W alone, pretty darn impressive!

I love both of them. I can never chose between the same photo that is in color or black and white. Color and black and white are two different aesthetics. It's like choosing between your children. All are loved for what they are, not compared to each other. JMO.

I will go half way. Selective color with the Green REMOVED The richness of the wood is to good to be lost.

I thought of that, just for kicks, because I hate selective color stuff. The problem was that the grass isn't pure green and the yellows are throughout the decking and masking it would have been a PITA. So, instead, I decided to stand on the fact that I'm really not a fan of selective color. Thing is, I was going the other way, leaving the green in the B&W. LOL

Lots of backyard activity last evening. To start, we have 5 young Bluebirds in our box, so Mama & Papa have been busy feeding them.

Next, we've had a family of Groundhogs living just behind our property for as long as we've been here. They've built a system of tunnels that runs a good 30 feet back through the brush. We've taken to feeding them the leftover vegetable scraps and old greens, and while most would say that we're crazy, they seem satisfied with what we give them and with the bird seed that's across the back - the rest of their food is in the field behind our house. Occasionally we get a rebel that wants to move under our deck, in which case we have a "relocation program". Here are the 3 young 'ins from this years (first?) crop.

Finally, every year we await particular birds as they return to summer in our yard. Every year around Mother's Day we get an Indigo Bunting. We know we must also be getting a female, but we've yet to spot her, or at least identify her, since she looks so much like the sparrows and finches we have. Here's the male sharing a feeder with a Chipping Sparrow.

Great bird shots, Jake. Nice and sharp and clear. As for the deck shots.....as nice as the colour one is, I like the starkness and pop of the B&W one. :)

As life continues to thwart every opportunity I think I have to get out and shoot (or play golf, or...), I'm thankful that I still have yard critters.

Nice to see that duct tape can not thwart the mighty indigo's quest for bird seed. :D

No, but it did close the hole a critter made when they pried a perch off and the seed fell. We're fairly certain it wasn't a squirrel - we think a deer antler got caught in it last rut. We found the piece this spring, about 5 months later.
