A closer look at SKI-RIXEN........ Look Ma, No Boat!
The Ski Rixen system offers the opportunity to water ski without a boat. It's been around for at least 10-15 years and it still draws lines of people. It costs $25 for an hour, $30 for 2 hours, and graduates from there.
The key to the operation is a pulley system....

This is where it all starts. You can read all the warnings. The skier stands on the carpeted ramp in the foreground. While holding on to the grip of the ski rope, a hook in the the cable system above yanks the skier off the ramp and on to the water. For some people, that's as far as they get.

The operator can vary the speed of the pulley and there can be multiple skiers on the cable at one time. Some are novices, and some can be experts.

Once you start skiing, the cable pulls you along and you have the option of jumps and slalom skiing. You can see the end of the lake and the cables. One big downside of this system is that if you fall at the other end of the lake, it's a long walk back to the start.
