Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Review

Lens looks good--I would imagine 70-200 is about perfect for baseball games & the 2.8 will give you plenty enough fast shutter speeds to freeze all motion. Have fun!

Pretty sure I'm going to pick up the Tamron 24-70 next time I see it on sale. I'm really hoping Sigma will come out with the rumoured f2.0 zoom, but whichever happens first. The 70-200 is great, but I really need to push the shutter speeds to capture movement. I'd get cleaner images with a 24-70 and slower shutter speeds, along with lower ISO. Anyway, here are a few from Fantasycon this past weekend. I grabbed the wrong PS action, so these are all a bit oversharpened. Oh well, these are just for fun anyway.

A few from this year's Color Run. It snowed in the higher elevations the night before, so the morning of the race was cool and mostly cloudy-great conditions for the f2.8.

A mostly dark, dreary & wet day.

These were all taken at Swiss Days, which celebrates the Swiss who settled in this town. This guy was a bit out of place. He and other costumed characters were all over promoting the Salt Lake Comic Con, which just started.

Pretty high praise, vindex. Thanks. I've actually been using this lens far more than I ever thought I would. With the proliferation of cell phones, I love the size of it because people will pose for me without my having to ask, which makes everything far easier. On the other hand, I also love the reach so that I can capture people unaware & acting natural. One of the better purchases I have made in a long time. If anyone is on the fence about this lens, I say buy it, try it & don't dwell on brand names.

I just read all 17 pages and I am really thinking about this lens for my daughters soccer. Plus I think there is a $100 rebate.

I will be posting some soccer shots sometime in the next month. Just haven't had time, so my season tickets are going to waste. I'm looking forward to finding out if 200mm will cut it or not for soccer.

I am looking forward to your soccer shots. I think 200mm would be good for U16 soccer. I walk the sidelines and shoot with no problems.

Depends on which lenses you have for the Canon or if the old version of the Tammy isn't fast enough for your Nikon needs?
All I have for my Canon is the kit lens. The older Tamron isn't very fast at all, my Tamron 70-300 is faster to focus I think. Decisions, decisions...

These are really bad, but I did want to share my thoughts on shooting soccer. I was standing up in the last row of bleacher seats, so I really couldn't zoom in on much unless it was on the sideline closest to me. I also have to shoot with both eyes open, otherwise I'll lose out on where the ball is. I'll have to wait until next year to try shooting directly from the sideline, but I'm wondering how the Tamron 150-600 would fare, especially AF speed-wise. It was 60F when we left the house, but it dropped down to about 42F when the game started. Since I basically had on shorts and a light jacket, I was pretty chilled & only stayed for the first half-didn't get too many shots, at least those that conveyed some sense of action.

Shot with D750 & tamron 70-200 VC USD from sidelines of my local highschool team. These 4 samples are between 2.8-4 at 1/1000th roughly. Focus with this lens on the d750 its leaps better than my old d600. Colors here are still off but they were just used on Facebook and PoP more like this. I use this lens for just about everything I do portraits/sports/indoors/outdoors. If I can make the lens work for me I use it. My bag usually has this and the sigma 35 art in it.

I had my Tamron 70-200/2.8 VC sitting next to my Nikon 70-200/4 this weekend. After holding them, staring at them & giving them way too much thought, I've decided to rid myself of the Nikon. My original plan was to keep it for those times when the slightly lower weight might be useful. In all honesty, I haven't touched it at all & have been using the Tamron for everything. The difference in weight is meaningless as I'm already usually hiking around with a minimum of ~20lbs of stuff in a backpack. So, I'll be picking up the Tamron 150-600, as I will get more use out of that than a lens I never use.

Anyway, just wanted to throw out some more photos to keep this thread alive.
