And now I own the set - picked up the 24-70 today, paid in cash, and will be giving it it's first outing tomorrow night for a buddy's band...going to go with the 70-200 on the D7100 and the 24-70 on the D610....should be fun. :D

That looks like a winning combination should get great results.

So yesterday I took some shots that I want to share. To test out the sharpness I shot at a brick wall. The first image was shot at 70mm at 1/200 f2.8 and ISO 100

Now this second shot was taken at 100mm 1/200 f2.8 and ISO 100

Third image was taken at 135mm, 1/200 f2.8, and ISO 100

This forth image was taken at 200mm, 1/200 f2.8, ISO 100

I'm pleased with the results of the sharpness against a brick way.

I also took this pictures of a cat that was posing for me, this picture I am not pleased with. I think the cat could've been much sharper. I do think it was my error rather then the lens though. Taken at 200mm, 1/200 F2.8, and ISO 100

Always blame the cat. Works for me.

A little quiet on this thread. Here are a few from the last month or so.

Before the beginning of the season, I did a bunch of test shots at various distances and ended up dialing in +10 for it. Seems to be a bit sharper where my focus point is now. The only problem I have is when trying to shoot the vault. From where I normally sit, the girls run from in front of me over to the side (diagonol). In 3D AF, the focus point jumps all over the place right near the actual vault, so only about 1/10th or less are in focus.

At less than 5M zoomed into 200mm does this lens have the same issue as the VR2?
In that it's not a true 200mm?

I've never cared or paid any attention at only 5m, but I can tell you that the zoom is actually a bit less than 200mm. I verified this with test shots between it and the Nikon 70-200 f4. Not by much, mind you, and certainly not a deal breaker IMO.
