Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC Test

help. i am comparing the two lenses. the vc 24-70 is really an impressive lens, however I can confirm a frontfocus at 24mm and backfocus at 70mm (or the other way around )

Only at 45/50mm does the focus sit true, and that is with a compensation of -5 dialed into the af fine tuning of the d7100.

should I send the lens back and get another copy, is this something that tamron could fine tune or is this something I will have to live with if I decide to keep the lens?

Thanks for your feedback.

I don't have an issue like that but if it was me and I could exchange it, I would do so.

done. all boxed up and going back, replacement ordered. the 28-75 will be going back to my buddy, the images all seem a little soft to me. will post a few pics from the 24-70 when there done exporting.

standby.........

so as you know the tamron (which always seems to auto-correct on my phone to tampon ) has been sent back to amazon for a replacement due to some focus issues. i checked the status yesterday and saw that the order in being prepared. i then checked the article page and saw that exactly this lens is being offered in the "lightning offer" section of amazon for a further 140 euro less!

to cut a long story short, ill be getting the lens much cheaper. i think it must be destiny that the tampon and i spend alot of time together

:semi-twins:

so, received the replacement last night and managed to do a few test shots on the good ole focus chart, sits spot on at all focal lengths. fantastic. i also noticed than when the vc kicks in the image stays in the same position in the viewfinder. with the last copy the image would jump slightly in one direction and then lock. Have heard of battery drain issues with this lens but mine seems to be fine now.
test pics to follow over the weekend, but at the moment my signature says it all!

Hmmmm. . . I wonder how soon it will be before you pair it with the Tamron 70-200/2.8? Took me about 6 months.

eduard, funny you should say that. i was browsing the lightning offers on amazon today and low and behold, the tammy 70-200 for €999. i should receive a medal for the willpower and self-control i showed today. you made 6 months, ill go for 12... but to make up for the extra 6 months ill buy the 70-200 together with the 15-30 :D

how are you liking the 70-200? VC version I assume?

Yes, I have the VC version. I very much like it. I haven't had too much of an opportunity to really use it but did capture this image of my wife last month at Schönbrunn. The build quality, like the 24-70/2.8 VC is stellar.

holy moly, the hood on this lens takes some force to get it on and off. is anyone else experiencing this? putting the hood on also with a filter screwed onto the lens also seems impossible!

The Tamron hoods definitely attach more firmly than Nikkor lens. I used filters a lot when in Hawaii earlier this year and didn't have any more of an issue with hoods on the Tamron 24-70 than I did when I used to shoot DX with my Nikkor 17-55.

... bought this lens few days ago. What can I say ... its just fantastic !!!
Happy with the performance. VC is quick when shutter release is pressed and AF is pretty fast too. And best of all, its quiet while focusing. No problem while taking it to low lit places.
It has slight vignetting wide open. No complain about that cause I like vignette. Will post some pictures here ... :)

congrats eddie. make sure you do a thorough test with a focus chart throughout the focal range as there seems to be some variation in problem. my first one i had to send back due to focus issue. the second one was spot on.

looking forward to seeing some pics!
