Some of my sons hens out enjoying the sun

Yes some have no feathers on necks it is the breed :) Ugly as they are they're friendly, great foragers and even at 4yrs old they still lay us lots of eggs. They just are difficult to look at :)

The following are NOT great photos but thought you might enjoy them
So Smokey (grey gelding) bugged and chased Comet (brown mare) away from her rolling spot and then proceeded to roll in her place so she laid down right by him
NIK_8732.jpg
Don't mess with the mare, revenge is sweet :)
NIK_8733.jpg NIK_8734.jpg NIK_8735.jpg NIK_8738.jpg
Now chasing Shy boy out of his rolling spot
NIK_8749.jpg NIK_8751.jpg NIK_8759.jpg
I laugh and groan because I'd just spent hours grooming the filthy wooly mammoths and now they are filthy all over again

the dirt/dust keeps them cool, the helicopter has a rookie pilot and he is chasing the ball on the end of the pole!!!

Thanx Roy I learned something new today i wondered what that pole was for :)

It's still shedding season here and although I've gotten most of the thick wooly stuff out they still have more shedding to do. It made it to a lovely +8C (46F) with 40+km winds so don't think it was the heat LOL Kids were still in winter coats most of the day because the sun was wonderful but the wind was chilly

I got brave and took my precious camera out into the wet :)

The 4-legged critters are all tucked away out of the rain but the ducks have emerged and are everywhere chattering and loving the weather

Living in the North has some perks.
Saw this from my back yard
NIK_9012.jpg

So grabbed camera and headed out back
NIK_9028.jpg NIK_9033.jpg NIK_9047.jpg

Thought the show was ending so got down from my perch

But it was warming up again

Plane landing
NIK_9078.jpg

2hrs outside enjoying the warm calm night and owl sounds but I had a busy day today so called it a night (morning??)
NIK_9081.jpg

No moon last night and was trying to capture more sky so tried out my 12-24 f4. Did 30sec exposures because my remote disappeared on me hope they're not too dark/light for non mac users to see :)

LOL others had photos posted awhile ago that I could not see the spooky faces because I only have Mac computers and images too dark for me too see :) I think my 12-24mm did pretty great because it was pretty dark out there and I did get up to 400 ISO on a few. A neighbour had left a light on so used it to set my focus and then hoped for the best. My trusty 35mm would not have been able to capture so much and even at 12mm I had a hard time choosing the new strongest lights starting up so I could get the best parts into the photos :) I tried some light painting but my horses mucked them all up photo bombing me but I gave it a try and will try it again.
I was going to try out "P" and see if camera captured it better than me but just could not give up control LOL I think I have done what I most wanted when choosing to get my first DSLR which is to capture the Aurora and next I need some better foreground unfortunately the Aurora doesn't tell me when it'll show up sigh

Beautiful pics of the northern lights. Just said to my better half that I was jealous :D He said that you'd probably be jealous of living here too ;) Nice that we can share each others backyards :D

Thanx everyone It does often seem like I live in the Arctic but getting to watch the Lights is a great perk :) They are fickle and just show up and disappear without any notice at all but they are the reason why I finally took the plunge into getting my 1st DSLR and learning how to take photos. I then took a mini college course last spring so I could get out of shooting "P" and learn my new camera so the Lights have pushed me to learn more. Yes I would LOVE to visit Australia Vixen but I'm too chicken of all the spiders and snakes to live there LOL
