Thanks!

That barn, after looking at it some more, just seems out of focus or camera shake or something... I was freezing to death, perhaps there is some shake in there. Both were handheld shots.

Day 050

I think I'll title this one!

Let's call it...

"Through the Drinking-Glass, and What Rob Found There" Beta version .013

I just did this on a whim, and I'll be revisiting it at some point in the future, but I need to get the 'art' worked out in my brain. Then I'll need to get the 'tech' worked out on the camera. Then somehow I'll have to bring them both together.

Day 052

Nothing special today.

The daughter, having completed her bachelor's in business management in under two years, is moving back home next week. Having been accepted to a slew of colleges around the country, she finally realized after much talkings from us, that free college is the best college. So she'll be going to the University of Toledo next fall. She'll be going for a dual-bachelors. English and Art, I think. She still has to talk to the advisers so that's subject to change. So... 1, 2, 3 degrees. Well, ok, whatever floats her boat. She'll have 3 degrees in the same time her high school friends will have one. So... yeah...

She appeared out of nowhere this evening, right before I threw the steaks on the grill, so I ran up to the meat market and got another one for her.

She's "cleaning" her room. I swear that room was spotless 5 minutes before I took this picture. She keeps mumbling something about how we were right all these years calling her a pack-rat.

She's outgrown the purple carpet, so I think she wants hardwood floors now. They grow up so fast.

Kinda fuzzy over on the top right... Guess I didn't open the aperture enough.

This snowman is a fine fine example of me not knowing what to do here.

I have monitor number one set up pretty much as it came out of the box. You all know, that's too bright. This is the monitor I use when I'm making a photo up for say, facebook and the likes, as I know most peoples monitors are way too bright.

I have monitor number two calibrated for what my printer will spit out. Which as you all probably know is much darker. I usually use that monitor to finagle photos for Nikonites.com, and of course if I'm going to print a photo out. I'm just assuming most peoples monitors here are probably setup more correct then the joe schmucks on facebook.

Is this a good assumption or not?

When I read the first line, I thought you meant about making a snowman :), then I read the rest of your post. That's a tough one.

I usually keep my monitor's brightness halfway up. The snowman looked rather underexposed. When I turned my monitor all the way up, it looked better, exposure-wise, but still a little underexposed. White on white is a tough one. Did you try to increase the contrast? That might help. Just suggesting.

I think you may be right about the average FB user, though.

Well...

Lemme pull up LR and take a peek.

I knew white on white is a rough one, and I've never done it before, which is why I attempted it in the first place. When I took it, the camera-o-meter said the exposure was proper, but I know it's not always correct.

Here's the histogram and photo unprocessed. It does look a little dark. I have no idea what those spikes going off the chart mean.

Here it is with a little more contrast (and the settings in the original photo I posted)

If I even touch the white balance a tiny little bit, it messes the whole thing up, so I don't think it's that. Maybe I should've used a flash... I guess I could try again tomorrow if it's still there.

Wait a minute...

That straight outta the camera shot, looks just like the original photo I posted.

---edit---

Duh... It is.

Here's the original outta the camera.

Ok, whatever those spikes mean, I did it in processing. ;)

This one is much better.
