Day 109

Our sprawling metropolis at night! Kinda purply out today...

Just a bit of colour correction got me this version:

Day 110

I need a longer lens...

One very unhappy Killdeer. Haven't found her nest yet, but her behavior tells me there's one somewhere. I'll have to watch her from inside sometime.

Day 111

Well, I was going to take a photo of the Kildeer eggs, but just before I was going to push the button, the dog (Not our dog) stepped on them...

I'm not too happy right now.

Here's some flowers instead.

Day 112

Seems like endless work in the "winery"!

The 1 gallon jug, and the 5 gallon carboy on the left is Skeeter Pee in secondary fermentation, and the 6 gallon carboy on the right is Moscato. I was going to bulk age the Moscato, but then I realized last night I need that carboy! So, it's going to have to finish aging in the bottles.

That red thing is the bottle corker.

The bottles are currently getting sanitized, so I have a couple minutes to take pictures before bottling begins...

Here's the Moscato all bottled up. The cloudy one in the front without a cork will cold stabilize tonight and the sediment will drop to the bottom and my wife will drink it up tomorrow morning when she gets home from work. The rest are going to take a nap until July/August.

...and I guess my yard is on fire too.

The entire bottle? Now we know why you make your own wine.

Yeah, there's a reason I make hundreds of bottles!

...but it all depends on her workload.

If it's just a regular night, she'll have a glass.
If it's rough night, she'll have two glasses.
If she gets a sexually assaulted infant/child in... You can kiss that bottle goodbye. (And probably close to another bottle.)

Being a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) can be kinda rough on you sometimes...

There is no way I could do that. I would be out hunting down the lowlife that did it. There is no punishment great enough.

Ya... it takes a certain special someone to do her job. I am not that person either.

She spends a lot of time in court as an expert witness though. She's never lost a case yet.

Give her an extra hug from me. She deserves it. My first business was a day care center so Kids hold a special place for me.

Will do!

She also teaches SANE to other doctors and nurses, so she makes a lot of power-points. I've learned never EVER under ANY condition to walk around the desk and look on the screen before I ask her if it's safe. I did once a few years ago, and I looked at the screen and said, "Ewww!!! That's Gross!!"

Of course she laughed...

It wasn't until 10 minutes later when I was in the bedroom that my brain put it all together and then I realized EXACTLY what that picture was of... I was screaming, "OH MY GOD THAT'S DISGUSTING!!!! I JUST FIGURED OUT WHAT THAT WAS!!!" She laughed again...

I had to go take a shower for an hour and scrub... gross gross gross gross gross!!!

I the first lab I worked in we had a Doctor come in with photos of a patient that had been tortured. He had been stabbed all over with a screwdriver and beaten with a baseball bat and then thrown in a creek for dead. Was not found for a couple of days. We developed the prints and when we asked if the guy was still alive. The doctor told us he was but they were turning off the life support as soon as he got back to the hospital since they were just making sure the photos came out alright for the court case.
We were the only local lab so we got lots of them. this was before digital or even one hour labs were around.

When I was in graduate school, I worked in a camera shop. It was part of a larger photo processing company that did a significant portion of photo processing in the north east. Because the processing plant was in the same building, most of the local police departments would have us develop & print their color film (they would do their own B&W). We saw some really gross stuff go across the counter in the time I worked there. The homicide detectives loved to show us the really gross stuff and then ask, "How's the composition of this shot?" I almost lost my lunch on more than one occasion.

I teach high school science at a residential treatment center. A significant number of the kids that we have in care have been sexually abused. As your wife knows, once the physical injuries heal, the psychological wounds are still there. It is so sad to see how people can so totally damage children.

Day 114

The wine fridge is full, all the wine bottle spaces in our cabinets are full, the pantry is full. I've also commandeered the top two rows of our giant bookcase, and that will hold 240 bottles. I guess I better start thinking about making a real wine cellar...

Oh my...

Remember

No wine before it's time!

Just keep drinking the cheap stuff until the good stuff is ready!

That's the rules.

That, and never stop making wine, or you'll run out. That's not good.
