Day 51

Soup

Trying to improve on my food photos.

Sorry for the delay. My son has been really sick which later lead to a trip to the doctor. I took pictures but was not able to get them posted until now. (He's much better now.)

Personally I'm not to crazy about that particular picture because of the flare and that is unfortunate because that shot has so many different elements going for it...it is somewhat strange to find flare in modern lenses because of all of their crazy multi coatings and whatnot. Lens flare was way more common back in the days of precoated lenses. Some lenses handle flare with flair but not many. An example is the cheapest old Nikkor you could ever buy the 28/3.5...not known for much but somewhat reknowned for it's abililty to handle flare adroitly...You can get on google images and look up "contre jour" and see many examples of the successful use of flare...they are typically less detailed types of pictures many times they are backlit bigtime and as such the flare tends to enhance rather than detract from the subject...

Wendy, you can make lens flare work with you if it's what you want in the picture. Sometimes it adds drama; sometimes it detracts. And sometimes, when it's a "mistake" and you like the picture enough, then make it obvious, as in this article.

Turning Flaws into Assets | O. Helene Kobelnyk

Thanks Helene. I have your post book marked. I will read it tonight. I just checked in for a quick second this morning. (Got'a run to school)

Jeff,

Thank you for your feedback. I think I'm with you. I couldn't decide if I like the picture or not. It looks nice but at the same time there is just something missing. I see too many dark areas with too many light or highlighted areas. Then there is the stink-en sun flare distracts the viewer's attention. I think I'll try again with this same place but different time of the day and maybe different angle. Meanwhile, I'll keep studying articles on lens flares. Thanks for your feedback.

Day 58

It never snowed but the clouds rolled in and it was cold.

I took two different shots. Working with what looks best.

Day 59

He was suppose to be doing his reading but after a while it was just too quiet. I couldn't resist savoring such a cute moment.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to give a quick heads up. I have been taking pictures but have not posted them yet. I had two major research papers due this week and the research was very time consuming. My fingers are crossed that I make it through my next four classes. I'm almost done. Almost done. Almost done. Almost done. I can do this!

My goal is to post my pictures today. Oh.. and I spilled coffee on my camera... that was inside my purse. Can you imagine?!!! Luckily it did not damage the camera. I don't think I've emptied my purse so fast ever in my life! It's been a crazy week.

See ya soon.
