Day 208, 2013 - Figurines

I have always found figurines, dolls, etc... to be creepy. I saw these little figurines on my mother-in-laws dresser and thought, "awwww, how freaking creepy!" So I decided to challenge myself to picture these figurines and show them the way I see them. Maybe next I will hunt down a clown and show them for what they are... also creepy!

Anyway, here are some creepy figurines.

Continued... Day 209 - Standing Doll

This doll is life size and the most creepy. You just know it runs around at night or when you're not looking.

Day 210, 2013 - Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8

My new lens, and most expensive to date, arrived today - Tokina 11-16mm. Before going out to shoot with the lens I called upon a friend to give me some insight on shooting with an ultra ultra wide angle. My friend explained it can be a hard lens to shoot with and when he got started shooting with one he considered getting rid of it until he figured it out. His help is immensely appreciated and I feel like I am on my way to take a bunch of bad photographs before I get the hang of the lens, but I feel like I'm off to a good start. Starting today, I have 14 days to get the hang of this lens before heading off to shoot the Milky Way - the purpose for buying the lens.

Your friend gave you great advice!! I experienced the same with my 12-24... Google search Ultra Wide Angle Tips (or something close) to get more ideas..

Day 211, 2013 - 11mm Star Shot

So I went out tonight to shoot a bad photo. I know you can't shoot the stars in the city very well due to all the light pollution. However, I have a trip coming up specifically to shoot the Milky Way and the Perseids Meteor Shower (although one day late of the peak) and have to learn this lens and learn it fast. So tonight I wanted to see exactly how wide 11mm is when shooting into the night sky. For reference I have traced out the Big Dipper so you have a scale to look at at night relative to this picture.

Image quality... VERY happy with it and this was shot through a UV filter (kept on there for protection of the glass) that will be removed for my Milky Way shots.

Ideally, that is what I would like to do as well. However, this became one of those... I WANT IT, I WANT IT, I WANT IT... moments. And I have no regrets, it's a great lens. One day, some day, in no rush, but I will go to a full frame camera but I don't see myself not having the DX cameras around.

True.. but in your case (and most folks out there) it is justifiable as well.
Once you done using you can quite easily trade them off...
Unfortunately, the concept of selling or buying used camera stuff is not at all an option here :)
i don't even think any such dealers/portals exist
