Day Two Hundred Three

One of my wife's roses. They didn't do well at all this year. Bloom here, Bloom there but seldom more than one or two at a time.

I think I was vertical for less then two hours yesterday. This is the "ONLY" shot I took and that was because I had to take at least one. At least the Tomatos are doing better than the roses.

Finally, I'm caught up on these. Can't play Favoritism here. Neither likes their photo taken but I had to try.

Dakota Lab/Ridgeback mix. Nervous dog. Only time I ever see her still is when she's sleeping. Otherwise it's pace pace pace.

Shylo. She's the one getting Chemo. She's learned to love her vet and his staff, but is very wary of other strangers. (Grrrrr).
The Chemo is scheduled to last at least through the end of this year. Hopefully she will stay in remission after that. I thought about asking our payroll people at work to direct deposit my paycheck into the Vet's Bank account.

Today's shot was a stroke of luck (for me, not the subject). Left work and it was pouring down rain. The fire had evidently just started. Cop yelled at me for taking this shot but I was stopped. After only one shot, the cop started directing us to the road on the right and through a shopping center. The Hummer was fully involved by the time we made our turn and the windows were starting to blow out.

I pass this building every morning. I've often wondered if all the hands are Gang Signs (right next to the projects) or possibly the sign language for the deaf. I don't think it's gang signs because none of the hands have the center finger extended. Maybe at a later time, I'll do the building in several shots and stitch them together as a panorama pic of the day. Not too soon after this one though. Maybe next week.

The University hospital recently installed an helipad on the roof. Previously they had to land between two buildings. Looks good and now that the first chopper has landed, I realized all I had was the 55mm kit lens in my car. Oh well. At least I got a decent shot for the day.

Today (well, yesterday's shot but getting posted today) it's just a simple little flower. This dang plant blooms one flower. That flower dies and another blooms. It's been doing this all summer.

Another flower. I always have problems with deep red and yellow. I can never seem to capture the original color. I wonder if I need to get some kind of filter Anyway. Here it is.

I saw this and had to take a shot. My camera doesn't do bracketing so I took three exposures and tried HDR (didn't work) I then tried changing exposure in lightroom and saving three copies for HDR but it still didn't work so Here is the best I could get. I guess I need to find someone who can teach me how to do HDR. Too difficult for this old buzzard to figure out on his own.

PS. Guess where else this one is going for this week?

Remember the Cantelope plant from day 154? I didn't think so... Anyway, we had taken a part of the potted version and transplanted it into the yard next to the deck. Today I looked and found this cantelope growing. It's almost as big as a softball and growing strong.

2012-214a.jpg

Of course while trying to shoot the cantelope, I found this little guy. I didn't have my 105 macro handy so I used the 18-55 but never thought to switch the dial to closeup mode.

Remember the little flower I said has been blooming one at a time all summer? (Day 209) Well, I got home today and what did I find?
Dad-gum things love making a liar out of me.

I'm a few days behind in posting. The pictures are in the camera... Honest they really are.
We've had grandkids for three days, and that means toys and stuff are all over the office. In a couple of days, the debris will be cleared out and I will be able to get to my desk.

OK, going to get caught up now. This is a potted plant I took out and set on the patio table. The sun was going down and shadows were long so I tried experimenting with the flash.
This exposure used the built in flash at -1 flash compensation F8 and 1/200. What amazed me was the background almost turned black when no flashed showed the background much lighter.

Had the two older grand daughters all day Saturday. They are such high maintenance. Took lots of pictures of them, but I am so wary of posting the kids pictures online. I almost forgot to take a shot of anything else. Finally, I piled some lemons onto a blanket and here it is.

Sunday and no kids. Went out to do a little power washing the deck. My health only allows me to do a little at a time so I'd do about 5 or 6 feet of railing and take a break. Then I decided to let the wife take a turn and experience the "THRILL" of a power washer. She didn't like it but did try. You can see before and after on the pickets. It hadn't been cleaned in several years so we're going to do a little each weekend until clean. Then we'll clean again in the spring and seal it good.
