There is an old Nikkor 24 that is a really special lens despite the fact that it is not the fastest of the 24s...the Nikkor 24/2.8...the later AIS version is a 9 elements in 9 groups rig and is very small and light and has the extreme build quality of the typical Nikkor from this period...it has virtually nil light fall off corner to corner from wide open to fully stopped down...it is in the top three (#2 is the 24/2) in terms of magnification ability (10X - that is incredible even by today's standards)...it is a close focus macro lens the likes of you wouldn't believe...

It is kinda like a 49 Mercury - they just don't make them like that anymore! :)

Believe me, Jeff, I don't turn my nose up at those old Nikkor lenses. I've been testing out some of the lenses my mother had gotten many years ago and found a nice 28 2.8 Nikkor macro (I thought it was 20mm until I put my glasses on LOL) that I'm adding to my gear bag even though it's manual focus.

An old car in the parking lot today . . . owner kept joking about it being a Plymouth . . . it says Mercury on the front. I didn't get the connection. I only know that it looked so much like our first car . . . I was 8 yrs old and it was a light blue Plymouth.

The old car ads used to say "Plymouth, Mercury, Meteor". Probably why he still calls it a Plymouth. They were practically interchangeable back then. :)

What kind of kit did your mom have if I may ask? I looked at your website and there is one small thumbnail which looks like you are holding a F...could that be your mom's maybe???

Once I get my hands on a digital body you poor folks are going to get tired of reading old Nikkor MF lens on DSLR reviews.... :)

Yep. Nikon F. I still use it just because of the memories and because it was so special to her.

Meggie . . . hunting anything that moves . . . in this case a bunny, who, fortunately was faster to the fenceline than she was!

Seems to be a wonderful friend there. I love the composition and the light. Did you burn much around the dog in post processing or was the flash diffused? I like the effect very much. And the expression… there is some kind of mystery in her eyes. Nice shot.

This was just the pop-up flash on the D200. I found it interesting that I had noise that LR didn't quite get rid of, so I had to use Define 2.0. I have a hunch that the barrel size of the lens has something to do with the amount of noise. . . at least that's what I seem to be experiencing.

Outstanding Helene, How come I can only press the like button once? I like to give you a whole page of likes on this one. I echo what Anthony said. Perfect HDR in my book, this is how I like to see it used.
