Thank you all for your comments and concern. We had a little bit of rain yesterday . . . here in Capitan, it was a nice shower . . . enough to put some moisture in the air and leave a few puddles, but barely register in the rain guage. I'm grateful for anything. There's so much news and focus on the Los Alamos fire, I don't think the rest of the country knows how serious this one is. This is farm and ranch country, hard-working, salt-of-the earth people who work hard and don't live in million dollar homes. They have not only been trailering their livestock to safety, but have been herding them a la "cowboy style" to the river. Most of the fire-fighting resources are going to Los Alamos. I can't even watch the news because the "Los Alamos whiney hiney's" really irritate me. We rural folk just do it. . . sigh

OK I feel better now. :)

"Lily"

Since nothing is growing in my garden, I have resorted to buying myself bouquets of flowers :)

Instead of buying flowers for yourself, why not go to the local cemetery and shoot some there for free?

Just a thought! :)

LOL, Pete. I kind of like having them in the house . . . not many flowers at the cemetery either, most are artificial.

So what was the damage? Was the fix very expensive?
When the camera got knocked over, it landed lens first. The filter shattered and got jammed on the outside ring. They had to replace that outside ring and reset the focusing mechanism. It also needed a cleaning. Total bill was $225 plus $20 for shipping. I certainly can't replace it for that.

It's such a great lens, I really enjoy it on my D700. It's extra sharp and I really like the almost macro function.

I thought about your suggestion to get a D700 for the amount that lens costs. I think that's part of my dilemma. I eventually want the bigger sensor, and the 24mm will be too wide. For the DX cameras, the 35mm is not wide enough. So, I'm back to square one --thinking and waiting and not being able to decide. The one thing I'm really sure about is that I like fast glass.

If I had the 24mm, I would still use the 35-70 on the D200 . . . he's like a good, old friend . . .couldn't get rid of him!

But the 24 on the D200 equals the 35 on the D700... And the iso capacities of the D700 are incredible. And the IQ. But the 24 1.4 is a super sharp lens too. I've never tried it and am afraid to...

I've even thought of buying the boxed set of 3 1.4s... I might be going overboard with this hobby...

An old car in the parking lot today . . . owner kept joking about it being a Plymouth . . . it says Mercury on the front. I didn't get the connection. I only know that it looked so much like our first car . . . I was 8 yrs old and it was a light blue Plymouth.
