Nice Helene, I see from the exif that you still have THE lens… :)
One of these days it will stay with you I'm sure. Seems like a great lens to work with.
LOL Yes, I rented it again. It's a great lens, but I see it more as a luxury than a "need" . . . The DOF is so good even at 1.4 . . . almost too good. I'm wanting a little more blur in the fore and background, sometimes. So I'm not 100 % sold on this lens, not at $2000.

"Smoky Sunset"

We have two wildfires in the area . . . I can smell and see the smoke  . . . makes for interesting sunset colors, though!

For that money, I'd get a D700. Then you can really go wide and some older lenses become very useful. Plus the iso. Maybe you could rent one to see, but then I'm almost sure you wouldn't be able to send it back.

I like the Irony of Alien City. Storm front moving in, but Irrigation system running full blast.

I like the part when the "Alien Mother Ship" emerges from the massive cloud and starts collecting humans as a food source --- oh wait,,,, that sounds like a movie :)

"Valley Fire"

This is 20 miles from me, in the valley farmland. Lots of horses and cattle and homes had to be evacuated, very fast moving. This is something I hope to never see in my back yard. The horses in the pic were quite spooked as they were getting loaded. I was quite spooked when I saw how fast it flared up and how long the fire line was.

Helene I hope you are staying safe and things are going well. I have to agree with Pete the picture is a scary one and I hope they got everything under control. I was thinking of you when I heard the news, I wasn't so sure how close that fire was to you.

Ok I like the shot, but I don't like what it is. Guess its no different then my weather photos. Make sure you and all your "pets" stay safe if it gets too close.

Not that I would want to see you in harms way, but I'm sure it would make for an interesting night photo at a distance. My daughter took some night photo's of a wild fire they had in Georgia earlier this year with her phone, let me tell you, some creepy stuff.

That is scary. I hope the winds don't bring this close to you. Prepare hard disk backup and take it to the bank just in case. Things can be bought back, pictures not.

Good grief, Helene! I had no idea it was this close to your home! Please stay safe, and just get out of there if you feel threatened at all!
Nice shot, though.....but yes, very scary! No shot is worth your life!
