Real nice composition Helene, I like the way my eyes are torn between the different flowers.

So when will you get your 35-70 back? You must be missing it by now. :(

Love the shot Helene it is just perfect. The flowers have a nice softness to it, and I love the colors in this photo. I am curious what your next shot is.

Got it back a couple of days ago. But I rented (again) the 24 mm and have a couple of days left before I need to send it back. It was good for me to be forced to use a different lens . . . May do that more often (not break the lens!) but use some of "neglected" lenses on a regular basis.

"Sunset Stars"

I'm always amazed at what the camera sees that our eyes don't. I wanted to get some star trails but with a little bit of sunset glow left. Unfortunately, I somehow screwed up the interval setting and got only 8 pics in 1 hour. So not very long trails. However, I did find the North Star. When I set the camera up, I could see none of these stars. The horizon also shows haze and smoke from the Arizona fire . . . I could smell it in the air last night.

Handheld, no tripod, and yes, from the balcony. Thanks for the comment, Ken.

More than the D2X, it was the 24 mm lens at f/1.4 that really cut back on the noise. The lens and camera combination affects noise as well as the camera settings. This is just incredible glass, and yes, I rented it while my other lens is getting repaired.

Thanks, Chris, and it wasn't intended to be crappy, however, TODAY's is.

I found this little gem of a lens in my mom's camera bag -- Albinar 20mm f/2.8 macro. It's manual focus but I can get about 4-6 in from the subject. Nice little surprise toy!

Fantastic shot Helene, I really like the softness of it. It goes right against my workflow which always (or almost) include sharpening. With this shot, now I'm thinking… maybe softening has it's place too. I like everything about this shot.

Tell me Helene, was this lens a Nikon mount already?

Yep. My mom had (and now I have) a Nikon F film camera. As a matter of fact, I just finished shooting a roll of film with it while I was playing with the lenses. She has a nice collection, although some do not work on the digital bodies.

Sometimes I think the sharpening is overrated. Film was always much more forgiving. I think that's why I like the softer effect . . . back to dreams.

My first reaction when I saw this was, "Oh my gosh, how pretty." I was going post that when I remembered that some people don't like the word pretty. May I say, "My gosh, how pretty - in a good way."
