I like you shot Helene. Did you intentionally have your ISO up to have it look a little grainy (I like the old days term of grainy instead of noisy)?

I needed the high ISO for low light and no flash. I'm still trying to get a feel for high iso/lens combinations --playing and testing LOL I use Dfine 2.0 to take out the noise (and there was a lot with this shot) If you try to take out all the noise with Lightroom it will degrade the picture quality.

I asked because I have been experimenting with Higher ISO. Back in the day, the highest ASA I would use was 400. Shooting indoor sporting events I would go to 1000; but a print larger than a 3"x4" was extremely grainy. There is a lot of noise on my D90 when shooting at 1000 ISO and higher. The D700 lets me get up to 3000 without a lot of noise, but it is still noticeable.

Chris, I'm suspecting that Nikon's newer lenses with the Nano crystal coating have a lot to do with noise control. When I shot with the new 24mm f/1.4, I had very little noise with the same camera and low shutter speed. I may be wrong since I don't know enough about the nano, yet.

I went to Google and found this Nano you were talking about. Neither of my lenses have this. We need to all get together and fuss at Nikon to get this installed on our lenses.iPod Nano.jpg

I have a couple month old Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. I will try it out on both cameras at high ISO and compare it to some of my other lenses. I'll let you know what I find out.

Maybe I won't need to though as there is always Pete's Nano coating :)

LOL, Pete! I actually have the nano shuffle --definitely helps with "noise" but not the picture kind! :p:cool:

It's such a little contraption, I can't find it half the time.

(Somehow I think I'm setting myself up for something here! :eek: )
