"On approach . . .landing gear down"

I really love humming birds. I try like hell to lure them to the house. Wife spends a fortune on hanging pots and feeders each year.
I just think they don't like me. (Or I'm too ugly and scare them)

Did you use anything like an automatic trigger, or did you just sit and wait?

Thanks, all, for the hummingbird comments!

"Disaster"

Was shooting at the domestic abuse shelter (photos for their website). Had my D2X on the tripod and handholding the D200. Stepped away from the tripod for 1 second and a worker backed into it. Knocked the whole thing down . . . D2X (with an SB-900) hit the floor, obviously lens first. The filter is shattered and jammed so I will need to send it in to get it off. I took several pics afterwards, and no damage to camera or the flash, or lens functions. This is incredibly rugged gear . . . hats off to Nikon, that I can pick the gear up off the floor and still be able to shoot. Trying to de-stress . . . probably a good indicator that I should insure my equipment for the future, especially as I upgrade to higher quality lenses (and take xanax . . . sigh).

OMG... And such a nice lens too. I got one of these last week and it's super sharp, except backlit... Maybe my copy is older than your's.

Ha-ha, Jen, good one!

Jack, you have to get away from the house a little more than 10 feet!

hehehe......smartass! ;) Yeah, I know I have to get out more, but it's been so windy and cold here lately, I just can't bring myself to drive anywhere. And the price of gas up here now is insane! :( If I wasn't such an upbeat person, I'd be depressed most of the time! :)

OMG! That doesn't look good at all, Helene! wow! What lens is that? Can't tell from the pic. Luckily it was the filter that took the brunt of the blow. A lot cheaper than replacing the whole lens. Sue the worker that knocked it over! :) Or at least get him to pay for half the damages maybe? Probably not gonna happen, eh?

Sorry to hear about your lens. If it happened to me, I'd have to sit down and cry.
I've had photographers tell me that the filters cut too much of the available light to make them worth while. Lightroom can fix everything is what they say. Well you just proved all of them wrong. Thanks.

I always kept a filter on any of my lenses, never had anything bad happen until last fall, needless to say I am so happy I only had to replace the filter.

Talked to Nikon yesterday (after trying to get the filter off unsuccessfully) and am sending the lens in.

My freckle-nosed, blue-eyed, red merle Australian Shepherd, Jack. He's another one of my rescues . . . shelter wanted to put him down because he was totally under-socialized and untrained --used to be scared to death of everything, including other dogs. He's very good at carrying firewood . . . except he unstacks the pile instead of stacking it.

Gottah like the dog Helene.

A few months ago now, I dropped my D90 transferring it from my shoulder to the car. I had the Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens on it. It dropped hard enough to shatter the filter and lens :-( I was pretty bummed, so I took my NAS and bought a 50mm f/1.4. At the same time I discovered Nikonites, picked up a D700 and now life is good.
