Day 202
This mural tells the story of Emily Post's adventure on the Lincoln Highway including her extended stop here in Rochelle. It is located at the corner of Lincoln Hwy & 5th Avenue on the Hub City Furniture building in Rochelle, IL.

Rochelle is known as the "Hub City" because of its location at the intersection of several major transportation routes. The first transcontinental highway in the United States, the Lincoln Highway, passed through Rochelle, as did US-51, one the first highways to go the full north-south length of the United States. Both these roads have diminished in importance (and are now state highways 38 and 251, respectively), but Rochelle continues to be crossed by major highways, especially Interstates 88 and 39. Besides roadways, Rochelle is also crossed by two major rail lines; the Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway mainlines cross inside of the city limits. The effect, as seen on a map, was one of the spokes of an old wagon wheel meeting at the "hub", and thus the nickname was born. Even the local high school's teams are known as the "Hubs"

Ok this is what I plan on shooting tonight for one of my http://nikonites.com/flashes/3261-strobist-boot-camp-iii-its-local-thing.html entry.

I wanted to shot it during the day with the same lens and angle I’ll be using tonight so I can compare the two.

I have not shot this because this is more of a snapshot than a photo, but this gives me the excuse to shot it now.

What makes this so hard to shot is it’s a flat image on a wall, if I move left the street light is in the way, if I move right, I’m standing in the middle of Main street. There is no place to shot it from above unless I climb on top of the Post Office behind me……..ah not a good idea.

Tonight challenge is going to be that darn street light, it’s on the same side of the street. I know it’s going to throw a lot of light and this shot is not going to work because of it. Well I guess that’s why this is called a challenge, if anything else I got a 365 for the day. I have other icons in the City but this was the first to come to mind. Now to work on those sunset photos.

Day 203 (early morning, ha! after midnight)
Finally!

Finally got on a storm. It was a simple drive by storm with lots of rain in front of the lightning so they didn’t turn out as well as I would liked. The storm was here and gone in 10 minutes. This has to be the worst year I have had to catch any storms at night. Might get two more chances Friday and Saturday night.

Still working off the laptop so my post editing might be off. Picked up a power supply today for the desktop but went out shooting photos tonight so I never installed it. I’m hoping it’s just a power supply if not it’s the mother board…. (DOA)

Day 204
Shot at dawn

Two nights in a row I been on storms. This was the last shot I took tonight. Dawn today was at 5:40. This photo was taken at 5:35. At this point I had been fighting light changes for about a half hour. I remember changing f/stops from f/8 at 5:00 to f/22 at 5:15.

Kept ten shots tonight after being on two storms, so I've been up most the night chasing. I'll post some later in my Lightning Chase thread.

Yes, this is one of those "Don't try this at home" things.
