Day 226 - Toying around with an idea...

Original or borrowed (like most of mine)? Either way, well done. Curious, is the shadowing on the edges just weird bokeh, something intentional or ...?

A little of both? I had seen pics of the scrabble letters on a mirror before, but I wanted to mess a bit with some focal zoom to add a "dreamier" sense to it, or something more surreal, and the blurred letters on the end with the ones in the middle staying in focus and higher detail... Messed with colors and detail and focal zooms here and there, then stumbled on the holga effects in Perfect Effects 8. WIN! Got an even better look, IMO, as the holga gave a double shadow, almost like hand shake on a slightly longer exposure. (it was also helped by the cheap mirror giving a tiny bit of double reflection as well)

I've got ideas, now, to catch a reflection or two of paradise type settings along with the word "DREAM" in the mirror, then actually snap the mirror by itself in much more mundane settings, swap out the reflections, and.... I'm sure you see where I'm going. ;)

It's going to be a BIG task to match what I can see in my head, and I think I'll actually need to use mirrored tiles (and perhaps something with larger letters) to capture the fullness of the scenes I'm envisioning. Combine that with the fact that my trip to Florida through the last week of August is going to be more focused on R&R than capturing the PERFECT dabbling shot project and... well, it may never happen. LOL I may end up using local park scenes and such instead, somewhere far down the road, never know.

Before I asked the stupid question, you forced me to dig deep into Perfect Effects 8 and find this Holga effect I'd never heard of. I've never been one for canned recipes, so I hadn't wandered over to the Preset tab there, preferring to roll my own on each photo. I'll be damned. This is sort of where Perfect Effects equates to Analog Efex Pro 2 in the Nik suite. Funny that they all seem to be labeled PE4, which I can only assume means that they've been around since Perfect Effects 4. I don't know that I'll ever use them, but I love looking through cool recipes and dissecting them to figure out how they are constructed.

You learn something new every day. Guess I can go home now. LOL

I tend to avoid the presets too, except for the same reason of digging in to break down each little bit here and there... but this time... laziness won, especially since it hit what I was after. ;) I'll go dig into the specifics later. HA! I usually click around in presets when I'm frustrated with editing, though, to clear my mind and perhaps spark new ideas.

I will say that I've created a few "personal" presets after figuring a couple of things out, but that's about it.

So that's what PE4 is. I was wondering about that but it never clicked.
As for presets, I like to start from a preset that I like or has potential, and then tweak it myself.

Day 228 - Flyboy

During the Convoy of Hope, one of the helicopters from Life Flight did a fly by and landed in a field nearby so the kids could check it all out. Here's a shot of one of my friends from BACA, who happens to be the pilot. Thought I captured it well for an impromptu shot. ;)

Day 229 - Messin' with spiders.

This little lady is actually about the size of half of my pinky nail... MAYBE 2/3... it was late, hadn't got to a shot yet, so went hunting in the garage for one of the gnat catchers. This time she had something her own size, and she was busy puttin' it under wraps, so OF COURSE I stuck an 18-55 as close as I could get and snapped a shot! (then cropped heavily)

Day 230 - Break in the clouds

Had some SLC (scary lookin' clouds) on the way home, but shot this over the roof of my house just as I arrived, just to see what I could do with it.

Day 231 - just experimenting

Once again, messing with the highest ISO on this primal beast, just to see what I can recover from the pic. This is my front flowerbed under the security light... nothing fancy, just testing the cameras capabilities, and the scope of editing that can be done with a "dark" picture. :)

Some days just don't promote a chance for a photo, so my 365 is at an end. Can a supermod change this to Pretzel's Occasional Snack-A-Day?

Thanks.

Great run, Pretzel!! Not only was it a haul, you rarely just posted to get past the day - (just about) everything was something you wanted to shoot and had a purpose.

In fact, if it helps, it can be merged with my "Learning Curve" thread, and just be called "Pretzel's Snack Shack" if ya like. However it works out to be the best. LOL

Thanks, friend. I really wanted to make it for the 4 more months, and woke up this morning regretting my decision, but yesterday... well, it was a bad day, and those do come up from time to time.

Maybe now, with the pressure off, I'll dig deeper into some of those things I've wanted to do, and go back to those things I said I would take a second look at. Definitely still in love with this whole photography "thing", so hoping to keep posting somewhat frequently. :)

As great as the 100 days I made were, I found the break from the have to shoot was good for me and I found a new passion for wanting to shoot. As soon as you catch your breath I'm sure you'll start surprising yourself with what you'll come up with.
