Chessie in all her glory.... :)
Haha! That'd make a righteous name indeed for a hobby shop cat. :D

From about 1975 on a chilly day at Barrington, IL, a Chicago & North Western freight advances through the white stuff. One the many dumb things I did as a young photographer was to keep a yellow filter on my 50mm lens. I read in a magazine that it made skies look better, but it was a terrible mistake because it darkened skies too much as seen here. [Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X]

From 02/21/1987 at Melrose, NC. The train had just descended what was at the time, the steepest mainline railroad grade in the U.S., known as the Saluda Grade. The average climb was 4-1/4% over three miles, with one stretch nearing 5%. This is serious stuff in railroading. Sadly, Norfolk Southern ended operations on the grade in 2001 and rerouted trains on an alternate line. [Nikon N2020, Kodachrome]

Oh yes the joys of using a yellow filter. I used to use one too, until the day I switched to color slide film and left the darned thing on. Should have seen that through the viewfinder, but I was using a rangefinder camera. 36 color slides with an odd yellow cast to them. o_O

I like the black and white image here. Yes the sky is a little dark, but there is so much right about it. (y)

A nice shot on what looks like a nice day. I've not been out much and what few shots I've taken are terrible. Not sure what the deal is, but the railroads insist on running trains without regard to composition and lighting. 😑

It was pretty gloomy day, but as I drove toward NW Ohio it got brighter. I was out chasing because my sweetie was having new carpet installed and I wanted no part of that.

I have the ability to always be on the wrong side. Guess I like shooting into the sun. From what I've seen you really do know how to capture a great shot.

An early present on Christmas Eve, CSX's 1976 Conrail Heritage Unit at Columbia, SC. CSX is adding special paint to a series of locomotives to celebrate the heritage of the railroads merged into CSX. The locomotive numbers reflect the year the railroads were founded. This is the first Heritage Locomotive I've seen from CSX. [D5100]
