How many of these have you had? I thought you had two in the past, but perhaps I am mistaken.

I've had three G1s, one purchase and two replacements. This is my first and I hope only G2. My current G1 will go back to Tamron tomorrow for a complete refitting, then I will sell it to a friend for cheap.

Does yours at least have a collar? The foot on my VRii can be removed from its collar, but the foot on my 300mm f/4 is permanently attached to its collar.

There is a rotating collar with a screw hole for a foot, but no foot. I do not think the collar comes off - at least not easily. I have looked on eBay for a foot but never found one cheap enough. Maybe I should go back to the well and see what I can find. I could just screw on a tripod swiss arc plate directly - perhaps with a washer to give it a little gap. But I tend to use this lens hand held. i think it would be OK if I put the camera on the tripod with this lens - but maybe not - and I've never done that.

B&H has a RSS LCF-10 Foot for $135 CDN.

I am not sure if I'd also need the RSS replacement LCF-10P Plate Mount to use the RRS foot.

There are two other brands (Sunway at $60 and Kirk at $106) Have not really look into this very hard.

Any comments from 70-200 users - how often is the foot needed? Is this lens too heavy and long to mount the camera on the tripod?

Then it is similar to the foot on my VRii. I use my 70-200mm f/2.8 tripod mounted at church with high ISO and slow shutter speeds. I have a Think Tank holster to carry it in, but the lens won't fit with the foot attached. One day I accidentally left the foot at home so I screwed the tripod head plate directly into that socket. It worked but was very wobbly making me believe it might be easy to break the collar. I just bought a different Think Tank holster for my 300mm lens which will allow my 70-200mm to fit with the tripod foot attached--I will use that holster so it never happens again. It worked in a pinch but I don't ever want that to happen again. ;)

My suggestion is to keep watch for a foot. They are expensive for such a small piece of hardware, but IMHO these lenses are too expensive to take any chances. Congrats on the lens. :encouragement:

Got a new lens. Tamron 28-75mm, used. Not a great lens but apparently good, especially for the price. Since I have an APS-C camera it's not going to be good for wide shots but this will primarily be for portraits so it's fine.

Also, it's my first non-Nikon lens. Yay.

My dearly beloved gave me her belated Father's Day present.

A "Kodak Vigilant Junior Six-20" - a bellows style camera, which I learned was only made between 1940 and 1948. Mine was Made in Canada - in Toronto according to the box. It did come with the original manual - which is a real interesting read. Actually used it to find out how to open and close it. Kodak Vigilant Junior Six-20 | Camerapedia | Fandom powered by Wikia

It is the latest addition to my small vintage camera collection. I collect them as curios, I have no idea if it works and probably will never find out, the 620 rolls of film may be hard to come by.

Sony XQD 32GB Card with Adaptor.jpg

Look what the post office had for me today.
Plugged it into my D500 - will put some images on it tonight and see if it is any better than a good SD card.

Had to look hard to get a faster one with an adaptor. I could have picked up the next generation XQD for $30 less and get an increased write spec of 440 vs the 350 this one boosts (read speed is the same at 400) but I paid more for the slower one to get the adaptor which I wanted as my only other option is to plug the camera direct to the PC or transfer by WiFi. I doubt I'd notice the difference between those two generations of the "G" Series XQD.

Update to my XQD purchase post

Tried it out - works fine. Really didn't notice the difference between a good SD card and this super fast card - but I didn't measure it. Only openned 484 RAW shots so maybe not a fair test and no stopwatch was used. But it works fine, and fast.

Now I have yet another gizmo plugged into my PC.

XQD Reader DSC_1123 -1.jpg

You can see the size of this new card, thicker and larger than an SD - and maybe more durable? I hope so, at $115 with tax and shipping for the card and reader it is a bit more costly than an SD by double the price if not more by capacity - SD's don't compare with speed. The reader is also twice the size of my SD card reader (that blue and black one reads SD and Micro-SD - it's a Kingston model). Both plugged to USB-3 ports.

Oh the memories - or rather memory devices.

I believe I have finally found a carbon fiber tripod that meets all my expectations. My Benro just doesn't go tall enough for some of my needs. I've had a Gitzo 2 series tall/long aluminum tripod that I love and really wanted something comparable in carbon fiber. My 20 year old Bogen-Manfrotto tripod is great (and tall) except it weighs a ton--it's terrific for portraiture or stationary indoor photography, but it's far too heavy to carry. With it's Bogen-Manfrotto head, it weighs at least 10 pounds.

So I opted to go with a pre-owned Gitzo carbon fiber tripod that is also tall/long. I realize it isn't good to use a tripod fully extended, but there are times at church when I raise a tripod all the way up and stand on a chair. I have an Induro pan/tilt head to put on it. Here is a stock image of the one I got:
