Just bought this travel tripod from a coworker. Looks brand new. He bought it while on vacation in Hong Kong because he left his at home. Don't know anything about Benro except that they are generally considered to be Chinese knockoffs of Gitzo, but it was inexpensive and pretty light. I will give it a more thorough looking over when I get home.

And an impulse buy for my wife as it's our anniversary this week... She wanted "Something light, and easy to use that takes better photos than my phone for when we are at the wildlife reserves"...

Earlier this year, B&H had closeouts on a few Benro tripods at least twice. I bought this carbon fiber Benro tripod which is okay although I do prefer my Gitzo. Read up on some of the B&H reviews of Benro tripods--maybe you will be able to find the one that you bought.

Well I didn't buy the Elinchrom 4x4 Strobe system - decided I was not ready to for that yet. (But maybe Santa will think I am)

I spent some quality time in a few camera shops getting sale clerks to try and explain what lighting system they had on offer that would be best suited to me.

I found that in general they did not recommend LED based systems - at least none I could afford, as they are "not there yet". But they have come a long way.
I had looked at those fluorescent curly bulb based continuous lighting system - in the budget but boy those things are hugh. They also are not favoured by any of the sales people.

One store pushed the aforementioned Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4/4 only $1050 CDN$ on a Black Friday special (save $150)
But the more I thought about it the more I shyed away from this purchase.

The final store - which did get me to pry open my wallet took a different approach. The sales fella spent more time understanding my style and my needs and in the end suggested that I needed to invest more in learning than in equipment at the moment. He didn't diss the Elinchrom but suggested I learn to use softboxes and other light modifiers using the strobes I did have - my collection of speedlights. Yes they have a nasty habit of running out of juice - that too is a learning - shoot XXX shots and then stop to change batteries, don't wait for the flash to stop shooting. He did end up selling me a few new modifiers. None overly expensive. One - the umbrella-softbox, or covered umbrella can also be used with studio strobes.

So I bought a strip style box

25x50cm

And a bigger 'umbrella-softbox'
DSC_4894+umbrella-softbox-0001.jpgDSC_4913+umbrella-softbox-0001.jpg

I also bought the stand in the pictures, it seemed $77 was the price d'jour as all three came in at $77 CDN$ each.

And I picked up a on camera light disk. ($30)

And a Snoot ($10)
DSC_4965+Snoot -0001.jpg

And a replacement plain umbrella also $10 "B.F. special".

Now to have some fun playing with lighting.

And have visions on strobe lights dancing in my head.

Im doing a lot more in Photoshop so it was time to try out a Wacom Tablet to see if it is better than a mouse.

I also got a 4 port hub, My Surface is really funny with hubs so I thought I would try this one out ...

I've actually fell straight into it !!

I have been playing with it for around an hour, edited about 4 photos and it is so much better than a mouse! The very fine spot healing you can do it immense !!
That is great. I had issues, but that may just be me.
I should change my post to, " I need lots of practice." Haaaaa

I've been thinking about trying a tablet for editing. Glad you like yours. Maybe Santa will bring me one!

Today's Brick-n-Mortar-Camera-Store Find: Sauntered into the local Toy Store today and walked out with these:

K1000%20and%20200%20f4%20post.jpg

The K1000 suffers from the usual Dead Meter Syndrome, but the ones I've come across I've been able to effect a simple repair. Otherwise, everything is in near-mint codition (the 200mm looks totally unused!)

Forty clams for the whole shootin' works!

I was at Best Buy today looking for something to use my gift card on. Since the photography section of the store was lacking I picked up some memory cards that were on sale and got a Wacom Pro Tablet that was on sale too.

Let me know how that works for you Mike. I have a similar problem. I do not like keeping the camera attached to the monopod. With my cane it gets busy. It is fine if I am more stationary like a family event or sports, but more difficult when walking.

Update on the monopod V adapter, tried it yesterday for the first time and have to say it looks promising,i carry my camera on a Black Rapid strap hanging on my left side,i used a old camera strap fixed to the monopod and put it across my body and round my neck (same idea as the BR strap) so the monopod is on my right side.

The system works because if i want to take a shot hand held i just let go of the monopod and it just hangs there within reach, now looking for a lot lighter monopod than my Manfrotto.
