Hmmm. Got 2 things fairly recently-

Series 5 Ultrabook for ~680 to be my capable workhorse. Still don't understand why people flush all that extra money for the apple logo....

And the lil macro LED ring to help illuminate my way through extremely lowly lit events.

Neither did i... Till i flushed it down and had the iMac on my desk ;)

I guess you're lucky not to suffer from spontaneous outbreak of hives when a computer creates hidden folders to "delete" files you clearly want deleted. Like sweeping a party foul under the rug until the next day instead of actually cleaning it up.

Now you need to upgrade your memory. I recently got a desktop after only having laptops for a number of years. I wanted dual large monitors to work with. The first thing I did was to go from 4GB to 20GB of memory. PhotoShop screamed after that little upgrade. Windows 8 is a little hard to get used to but I think at its core it is probably the best windows to date.

Went to 8 already, and it feels like plenty for me. Haven't tried keeping >30 files open at a time and I don't think I'll ever need to. And 500gb 2.5 HDD vs those stupid soldered-on SSD flash chips is another huge relief encased in an aluminum body.

Were you saying that OS X creates hidden folders when you want to delete something?
That's very similar to how Win works with registry keys & temp files..as long as you know how things work, no issues
there are numerous add-on apps which automatically detect when you drag a file/folder/app to the trash & checks if there are any other associated files or folders and immediately cleans up them too.
all that happens within the time span of a button click...

if that wasn't what you said, then you'll have to elaborate :p

i love the PC for tons of things, but hate it too for the same number if not many more reasons
(i have 2 PCs and 1 laptop too btw, so a fare share of Win ;) )

I do a lot of HDR and panoramas so the additional memory is great.

@White- whole OS was made kinda azzbackwards IMO. Only real point is that its hardly worth the markup in the price, in my opinion.
@Don- I'm starting to dabble into those, and so far so good. If a core 2 duo with 4GB ram and no gfx card can pull a large pano, this thing can definitely do it about 10x faster lol

True... The OS could be a little more friendlier but there isn't anything today that offers the stability as OS X..
And yes, i find it hard to justify the prices of any of Apples products...
But hey, if you want something that's stable, Win won't do it.. and the competition has the right to charge what they choose :-|

The OS isn't considered into the pricing of Macs. IMO the OS.. OSX Mavericks now... just works. Microsoft was a nightmare when installing and uninstalling programs. I had more registry errors and blue screens to drive me over to Apple. The last decent version of Microsoft was 2000 Pro. After XP... I think they signed the death warrant.
I've had plenty of microsoft products ( desktops and laptops ) and mac products ( iMac, Macbook Air, iPad, and iPhone ) and as Apple makes their own hardware vs Microsoft doesn't.. If you look at the quality of hardware, Mac pricing isn't that bad. I've seen Microsoft OS installed on laptops that are over 1100.00. My macbook air was 995.00. I wouldn't trade my Macs for any of the higher brand microsoft laptops, desktops, or phones. I believe Mac products are of a higher quality than the plastic microsoft versions.

Had a used Nikkor 50/1.8 G delivered today. A bit worn on the barrel, but it's pristine where it counts. Who cares if half the gold is rubbed off the numbers?

@mark- I either have the devil's luck or I'm just good at refreshing Windows based products when needed. Never really had many issues for about 6 years besides the hardware aging and giving out due to natural causes.

Like I said... latest os that worked for me was 2000 Pro. When I updated to XP I found that I was needing to reinstall every couple months. Vista? Eh. It was ok. But same thing.. reinstall every few months. Now they have this Win. 7 out there. To me, it looks like its meant for a phone... or a pad of some kind. Not a desktop.
I moved to an Apple device during the XP Vista era. Actually had a Mac years before all that, But I didnt give it time to get used to it.
Part of Microsoft's marketing I suppose.
Now, with a few years invested in a Mac... I can't go back. My girlfriend has a vista machine... drives me crazy trying to fix problems she comes to me to fix.
That said... its all an individual preference anyway. Some like Apple, some like the rest. Now we have Google. LOL

WooHoo! My D5100 arrived safe and sound 3 days early! I got that battery in the charger and put D3100 battery in the D5100 so I don't have to wait to play with it! Lol :)
I still need to buy a battery grip, since the battery grip I bought for the D3100 isn't quite shaped right to fit the D5100 without a gap, since the D5100 is slightly wider. It's raining here "of course" so the outside shots will have to wait. Grrr Lol :)
The flip screen is pretty cool, but I'll have to get use to it before I'll be able to say for sure that I like it! Lol :)

I remember the jump between my D3100 and my D5100. It is a very nice jump. I really did not use the flip out screen very much but I don't really like live view. But there were some occasions the flip out was the only way to get the shot. You will have fun with the new camera.

My D7000 got here this morning. Had a bit of a heart stopper though. I was tracking the FedEx delivery and got notice that it had been left at my front door 5 minutes ago. Go I got on my walker and went to check and it was not there. I got my son who is visiting to go outside and check the other doors and near the doors and it was nowhere to be found. I even had him look on the neighbors porches. It has been 20 minutes now that it was said to be delivered. I got on the phone to FedEx and finally got a human on the line and explained what had happened. By this time it was half an hour later after it was supposed to be delivered. The agent verified that it had been delivered. About that time I heard a truck out front and my dogs let me know that someone was at the door. I got up and there was my package.

The rest of the day so far has been charging the battery and reading and playing.
