Zhongyi 135/2.8.
It built like a Leica R lens, but the optical performance just so so for this $100 something lens..
Left picture is wide open @ 2.8, image is really soft. On the right is @ 5.6, so probably the safe f stop will be around f4 to produce a decent bokeh.

My shiny new Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 arrived today and I bloody love it. I finally feel like I've got the right tools for the job when I go out into the countryside. Now I've got no excuses if I can't get some nice wildlife shots.

According to EXIF, both these pics are at f/2.8. ISO is different. Maybe 1/30 SS made the first pic soft if handheld? Pardon my being ignorant, but why put a $100 lens on a D4?

Since the lens bayonet has a simple straight cut to fit on a nikon mount (not even an AI cut), with no electronic contacts, works like an old school range finder with stop down metering..the EXIF data wasn't correct. On the web said the lens constructed and polished like the old Russian/Soviet military lens, I just want to see how it looks on a $100 lens :)

I guess I will never pay no $800 for their 85/1.2 or the 50/0.95 in the future..

After spending a lot of time reading reviews and watching YouTubes finally decided on the Jobu Micro Gimbal Ballhead Adaptor for my new 200-500 long lens.

Regular price on the box $179, picked it up on sale for $90. Which posed a problem as free shipping did not apply under $99 so added a
SB-400 from their used bin for $50. Works like a charm, was looking for an inexpensive third flash and this one got some great reviews for a tiny flash.
One big limitation is that it does not rotate but does tilt for bounce flash (the primary reason for getting it) and sadly it does not work as a slave in the CLS system. I suppose if I were to get triggers it would be jim-dandy though. More handy than the pop-up flash. And for $50 it took me well beyond the 'free shipping" limit.

Ok, this is not a latest purchase post, but it is a near miss of one. I went to a retail photo store that I've shopped since the early 1970s as a kid. I went in to buy an Arca-mount plate for a tripod head, some repair parts for a tripod, and a rear-LCD screen loupe. So as I'm waiting for the clerk to look for/find the tripod parts, he asks me what I shoot and I tell him I primarily shoot a D700. Before I know it, he's leading me outside with a new D750/Nikon 200-500 mm AF-S lens combo to try outside. The combo was so good, it took every bit of discipline to walk out of the store without either one or the other, or both of them. If he had said anything like "we have same as cash financing" I would not have been able to resist. This episode rekindled the joy and memories of buying gear from a real store, where although it is a bit more expensive, it was a real hands-on experience. I am now quite confident that I'll be back later this summer and will be purchasing the camera, and possibly the lens, as well.

I can hardly wait!

SB-400's not bad for a basic flash, I bought one right after I bought my D3100. I liked it a lot for fill flash.
$50 is a good price. Since Nikon discontinued it prices have gone way up.

Oh, I don't think that will happen, Kevin. Earlier, I filed adoption papers at the courthouse, and that lens is officially my baby. I'm just looking for its siblings, now!!! ;) Of course, my wife might not be very happy about it....

I may have forgotten to mention that they have a used AF-S 400mm f/2.8 in the store, as well. I told him I didn't even want to see that one.

I do remember that I still owe you a test drive with the 300, though!!

Well it is not camera gear, but I did sorta bought something in a way! lol A friend owed me some money and he also needed a few bucks for gas, so I took $95.00 off his debt and gave him $15 cash and he gave me a Wii game machine and a couple stacks of games for it! I have no clue what a Wii goes for, but it will give me something to do now and then. Since he is a buddy I hope he was fair with me. I'll likely check sometime out of curiosity. :)
