Marilynne, I cut the heads of birds too, :D, I think this should have been in the "almost photos"

This is my first successful BIF photo, and I don't even care that it is "just" a blue jay. :) . Pure dumb luck. I was holding the dog's leash with one hand and the camera with the other. Love the backlighting, too.

For some reason Jays are excellent BIF subjects. They have more curl to the end of their feathers or something. Love 'em.

They also usually warn you before they take off with a lot of screaming. We have a trio of them that fly back and forth across our lawn to the neighbor's and back. Lots of opportunities. :)

Almost in flight. These little guys only fly at night and will dive under the water if they get scared. I have seen them go under and come up 50 yards away. Anyway this fellow was just drying off.

These little grebes are fascinating. They are the only ones that sink on the spot instead of dive. I love their haunting call too.
